Our guests today are Dr. Paul Blumsack and retired USMC Major John Forrest.

We’re discussing some important factors relative to Re-Entering Civilian Life after transitioning out of active military duty.

Dr. Paul Blumsack is originally from Boston, Massachusetts and a veteran of the United States Air Force. He has been married to his high school sweetheart, Paula, for the past 28 years and together they have raised 5 healthy, medication free children. Dr. Blumsack graduated from Life College of Chiropractic in 1994.

Dr. Blumsack has developed a unique approach to care that has been simple and effective in helping get sick people well, improve their overall quality of life and then help them stay well. He is committed to helping his community Live Better and Live Longer through specific scientific chiropractic care.  Paul is also dedicated to helping his fellow military veterans regain their health, reduce stress and reintegrate back into society.  He is a strong proponent and promoter of the ICA Cares Program offering free chiropratic care to Iraq and Afganistan military veterans.

John Forrest retired from the United States Marine Corps as a Major after serving over 20 years in active and reserve duty.  He served in Southwestern Asia for Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm and was mobilized and deployed to Kuwait and Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.  In 1986, John enlisted in the Marines and graduated from Recruit Training, aka Boot Camp, advancing to the School of Infantry, then serving his reserve unit until accepting a commision as a Marine Corps officer in 1989.   John’s military career included a wide range of responsibilites in command and staff positions and is distinguished by many commendations and awards including the Bronze Star.

Currently, John heads up the Forrest Consulting Group and an Aflac practice while, in his spare time, he is pursuing a masters degree at the Keller Graduate School of Management in Atlanta, Georgia.

Our featured guests today are Lorna Rasmussen, Regional Manager for Legal Shield and Bill King, founder and president of Axxiom Franchise Advisors, and we’re talking about How to be in Business for Yourself for less than $500.

In the franchise consulting industry, we are constantly challenged by never wanting to say No to someone with entrepreneurial desires. Most franchises require a significant financial commitment that prevents many from achieving their business interests.

Today, we are talking about a proven business opportunity, providing needed professional services, for “wannabe” entrepreneurs and an investment of less than $500.

Sound too good to be true? Not at all.

However, like anything else in life worth having, this business requires a personal commitment to be successful.

First, let’s meet Lorna Rasmussen:

Lorna was born in Canada and started her professional life as a documentary film producer with the National Film Board of Canada, producing films focused on issues of concern to women and families. She was fascinated by how people met challenges in their lives and overcame them. Her films reflected a real belief in the ability of people to triumph over adversity.

While she loved producing films, she longed for something that would put her in more direct contact with people. She became a personal coach and trainer with the Success Motivation Institute (one of the earliest companies in the field of personal development) and was certified to train and support clients in the areas of time management and goal setting.

At the age of 40, with a young son and a husband in a career transition, Lorna realized that she needed something that would provide her with greater financial rewards. Film production, teaching (She had been an adjunct professor in universities in both Canada and the US.) and coaching had been personally rewarding but had not provided her with the financial compensation she needed.

Her search introduced her to the direct sales industry and it was there that she found everything coming together. It was personally rewarding to help others achieve their dreams, it was financially rewarding and it allowed Lorna to use all the skills she had been developing over the decades.

Lorna quickly became one of the top producers with LegalShield. She developed a marketing team across the US and Canada and was honored as a Millionaire Club member in her first decade with the company, having earned over a million dollars in commissions. She is one of only a very small number of women to reach the top position in her company.

Lorna believes that direct sales has the answer for work/life balance in the lives of women and is a powerful alternative for anyone seeking a new career or exploring business ownership. To share her love of the profession and the information that made her successful, Lorna began writing books on the subject.  Two books in a series were published in 2009: The Absolute Best Way for Women to Make Money, and a similar book focusing on African American women.

Today, she continues to use her experience to do what she has always done – support others in the realization of their success. She coaches, speaks and writes. She has produced three very successful books and co-authored others with writers like John Fogg and Robert Allen (Guerilla Network Marketing, It’sTime … For Network Marketing and Direct Selling Power).

If you’re not impressed with Lorna’s career history, you’re not paying attention!

I think, especially for women veterans and/or military spouses interested in having their own business with a high quality organization, a proven business model providing a needed service,  low cost of entry, no costly inventories to buy, excellent training, continuing strong support, offering flexibility for your time, home based and delivering the quality of life that most seek; Legal Shield offers a virtually unlimited opportunity.

It’s not for everyone but with the right skill set and determination, this can be an amazing opportunity.

We welcome Wayne Kidd from the Johns Creek (Georgia) Veterans Association.

Johns Creek Georgia Veterans Association is a relatively new group, organized by veterans and for veterans and has the full support of the village of Johns Creek, Georgia.  The JCVA is moving quickly to establish a Veterans Memorial Walk to recognize military veterans from all eras, increasing awareness within the community of the price paid by military veterans to serve.

The group and the memorial serve as an example of how a small group of individuals, who share a common bond in this case military service, can establish an organization, secure public support, creating veteran recognition in the community.

Great job guys!

Our next guest is Mike Roman.  Mike’s company is Manufacturing Practices, Inc., known as MPI

Manufacturing Practices, Inc. serves the manufacturing and distribution community by assisting them in the selection and

implementation of Enterprise Management Systems (ERP).   MPI originated in the mid-1980’s when Mike Roman, CPIM, joined a small family-owned business performing IT, materials, and operations management.  While there Mike helped to successfully deploy business management software for the organization. As soon as the responsibilities were transferred to a colleague, Mike moved on to help other small and midsize manufacturers maximize the performance of their systems.

MPI clients have included over 60 manufacturers in a wide variety of fields such as steel fabrication, flower and seed, and extruded plastics. The company focuses on providing personal and comprehensive services to small and midsize

companies that are the backbone of the American economy.

Mike and MPI serve as an example of how some military experience and skills can be applied to the corporate world and creating your own business and being part of the community.

Wayne Kidd and Mike Roman are Vietnam Veterans.  Thank you for your service and Welcome Home!
