Hohn Watkins JLW Photos 002 Book

John, a veteran business litigator and business attorney, discusses his new book, An Insider’s Guide on Hiring a Business Attorney. John wrote the book because he has repeatedly seen small legal issues that could have been easily resolved with some legal advice on the front end turn into large (and expensive) legal problems.

John determined that many business executives and owners may simply not know how to go about finding, evalulating, interviewing, hiring, and working with a business attorney. The book provides a concise, step-by-step guide regarding these issues. The book is available on Amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com and through other distribution outlets. More information can be found at http://www.businessattorneyguide.com.

John is a business litigation attorney and business attorney who has practiced for over 25 years in Atlanta. He began his practice as a general commercial litigator, and now concentrates on cases involving insurance coverage (for policyholders, not insurers), confidential information and trade secrets, and corporate and LLC disputes. John is with Barnes & Thornburg.

John also serves as outside general counsel for some clients, and assists them in negotiation and drafting contracts, terms and conditions, non-disclosure agreements and other business documents. John has been named to the list of Georgia Super Lawyers for several years. In 2010, John was one of the Top 100 Super Lawyers in Georgia based on the nomination, research and review process. He is rated “AV” by Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, its highest rating, and 10.0 by AVVO.com, its highest rating. John graduated first in his class from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1982.

Rebecca Prien, attorney and artist, shares with us about how she helps creative entrepreneurs use the law to harness and leverage their creativity to grow their businesses—and how she’s doing that for her own business, counsel-to-creativity.

Rebecca specializes in creativity-law-creativity translation. She counsels right-brained entrepreneurs on how to harness and leverage their creativity to grow their businesses. Committed to helping creative businesses thrive, Rebecca believes that legal structures are key to creating a thriving, sustainable business. To get there, she connects with her clients through playing with language and drawing concepts, literally changing the way law is done.

She is a graduate of Princeton University and Boston University School of Law and, over the last decade, has served at two United States Courts of Appeals and in private practice at two major firms. But she’s never been simply an attorney, having woven her creative and entrepreneurial pursuits, which include creative writing, painting and yoga, throughout her education and career.

Headshot2

Mark Reyland of Obvious Ideas LLC explains the concept of separation between the inventing planet, where there are no rules, and the business planet where everything is governed by a set of rules. Every inventor headed to the market must first pass through the business planet, and when you don’t know the neighborhood you may want to get a map.

Since childhood – Mr. Reyland has successfully traversed the often turbulent waters of Entrepreneurship, Inventing, and Product Development several times. Mark is a Product Inventor with 5 patents under application, and currently Founder and CEO of Obvious Ideas LLC – a Cincinnati based product development company specializing in providing fully developed products to standard retail and the Direct Response industry.

An avid student of the invention and product development process – Mr. Reyland, is notably one of the few professionals in the industry who routinely takes responsibility for the form, function, and market viability of an idea. Using a hands-on approach to the entire development and distribution process, and ultimately making certain every consumer who purchases his products gets the maximum value for their dollar.

Although Mr. Reyland does product development consulting for other companies, most evenings you’ll find him on the phone mentoring young inventors through the process of developing their dream. Mr. Reyland’s inventions and products have been widely published in magazines and trade journals
