Southeastern Ohio has some of the highest rates of chronic diseases in the country. In forming the “Live Healthy Appalachia” initiative (LHA – www.livehealthyappalachia.org ), community leaders in and around the city of Athens, OH are committed to begin an assault on the deadly conditions of obesity, diabetes, heart disease and cancer. LHA is a partnership which includes Ohio University, the City of Athens, Athens County Department of Public Health, and Athens City & County schools.

Louise Koons, LHA Initiative Coordinator, and Tom Kostohryz, founder of LHA, joined the show to share their program’s vision and purpose. We discussed some of the key programs and events that are planned; and we learned their expectations on what will make LHA a successful and sustainable initiative.

Cary Green has been in the IT Services industry for over 25 years.  His background includes Sales, Engineering, Operations, Business Development and General Management. Currently he is working for CSC (Computer Sciences Corporation) where he is responsible to develop the solution offering for the pursuit of IT Outsourcing opportunities valued at greater than $500MM Total Contract Value (TCV). In his past he has worked for Bell Atlantic, Digital Equipment Corporation, Siemens and SITA.  He has managed P&L’s of over $175MM in a global setting having done business in all continents except Antarctica.  He’s held Board seats at CertiPath and the Aerospace Industry Association.  Locally, he is active with the Boy Scouts of America, The Kettering Executive Network, The Technology Association of Georgia, and  The Project Management Institute. Cary lives in Cumming with his wife of 25 years and their teenage son.

 

 Leigh Moore, MSW, PHR, CPRW, FJST

Leigh Moore, President of Bridge Career Management, Inc. is a Career Coach & Trainer with more than 15 years’ experience in resume writing and career coaching for both the private sector and Federal government job markets. 

After 9/2011 Leigh earned a Federal Job Search Trainer designation and began working with clients pursuing positions in the Federal arena.  She was featured on WGST Radio 640 Atlanta in March, 2003 and July, 2004 and in the Atlanta Journal Constitution in June, 2003, and January, 2011 regarding the federal job search process. Additionally, Leigh teaches meditation classes for Evening at Emory and has traveled to India, Mexico, and Switzerland to attend meditation retreats.

 

Eric Bell

Eric has been in the franchising industry for almost 10 years, starting out as a franchisee with the popular tanning concept Hollywood Tans.  Eric also oversaw operations for the Atlanta area, and even sold franchises.  In October of 2005 he joined FranchiseGator.com, the leading online destination for those seeking to invest in a business or franchise opportunity  Eric began his career with FranchiseGator.com as a sales representative, serving franchisors and other companies that had an opportunity to present to budding entrepreneurs, and by 2008 he was managing the sales team.   In his current role as Director of Sales and Service, Eric works very closely with the 300+ clients who use their services to find prospective franchisees.  Eric is very active in the franchising community, and is a member of the International Franchise Association (IFA) and the Southeast Franchise Forum (SEFF).

Ryan Magnon: The West Paces Hotel Group

Ryan Magnon is Vice President of Quality for The West Paces Hotel Group. His current responsibilities include oversight of global customer and employee satisfaction, service excellence training, process management and improvement, change management, and quality leadership training for all brands within the company. Ryan also consults with outside organizations and companies on applying the service and quality principles that have enabled growth and customer loyalty.

Ryan has a track record of success including his service as a Quality Officer in the U.S. Air Force and selection to US Air Force Flight School. As a Quality Officer, he implemented a number of successful Quality initiatives as a Six Sigma Black Belt, in areas such as flight operations, logistics, and medical services.

He then applied the same skills and expertise within the commercial real estate industry at Prosero, an e-procurement solutions provider, assisting property owners and retail management companies like Trizec Properties and Cushman and Wakefield by improving their purchasing strategy and supply chain processes.

He then joined the management team that established the first supply chain consortium for the tire manufacturing industry, RubberNetwork, saving its member companies millions annually and vastly improving service efficiency.

Ryan assisted companies like Michelin, Goodyear, Continental and Cooper Tire with their processes and service delivery. Ryan graduated from Georgia Tech with a BS in Management.

He currently serves on the Board of the US Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Foundation and is a senior member of the American Society for Quality. Ryan has spoken on the topic of Service Quality for organizations like Net Promoter, Aflac and American Society for Quality.

Ricardo (Ric) Hubler is the Director of Global Business Growth, Global Commerce Metro Atlanta Chamber.  Ric joined the Chamber’s Global Commerce team in January 2007, and is responsible for programs to increase international trade by helping local companies expand their businesses to international markets. He assists local small and medium-sized companies that are looking to expand internationally by helping them to identify new markets and investment opportunities outside the United States and putting them in touch with the proper resources, both locally and internationally. He partners with the local consular community and state and federal agencies along with economic development agencies, consulting firms and financial institutions around the world to accomplish this goal.

Ric was previously with the Home Depot, where he earned his Six Sigma Green Belt while working in the company’s audit leadership program. Ric led various business improvement projects across several areas of the company including merchandising and marketing, human resources, information technology, finance and store operations, including in Mexico. He also worked in business development and brand protection for the company’s fast-growing services division.

Ric was a member of the inaugural class of Georgia State University’s Global Partners MBA program, where he earned his international MBA and membership into the Beta Gamma Sigma International Honor Society. He also holds a masters of international management degree from the Universite de Paris, Pantheon-Sorbonne and a certificate from COPPEAD Graduate School of Business of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. The Venezuelan native has been heavily involved with franchise brands such as Domino’s Pizza, Papa John’s and Benihana, in addition to running his own consulting company. Balos, President of Middle Market Banking has had  23 years of banking experience, all of it at Chase and its predecessor organizations.  David was formerly the Market Manager for two regions in Michigan before accepting the position to lead the Atanta maket in May 2009.  David joined NBD Bank, a legacy organization, in 2986 as a Financial Analyst. Today we shined the spotlight on Rick Evans owner of the very first Yogurtland in Atlanta, Georgia. Rick is opening the first of six Yogurtland stores on West Paces Ferry Road near I-75 in the OK Cafe Shopping Center.

Yogurtland is based in California and offers its customers 16 flavors of yogurt with 26 toppings. Some of the flavors and toppings change so you never know what you’ll find. Rick explained that he will offer the best tasting yogurt at a super affordable price – much less than his competitors. So if you are looking for a healthy and delicious dessert treat be sure to check out Rick’s Yogurtland.
