Shaunti Feldhahn is a groundbreaking social researcher, consultant on women’s leadership issues, best-selling author, and speaker.  A former Wall Street analyst, with a master’s from Harvard, Shaunti took the path less taken and now applies her analytical skills to the startling research of what men and women each privately think in the workplace and at home; perceptions that we rarely hear but that affect each of us every day whether we realize it or not.

This information is game-changing for women in business, as seen in Shaunti’s latest book The Male Factor: The Unwritten Rules, Misperceptions and Secret Beliefs of Men in the Workplace. Based on nearly 10 years of interviews and surveys with more than 3,000 men, Shaunti uncovers what high-potential women need to know about the secret, unfiltered thoughts and expectations of their male bosses, colleagues and customers – high-leverage information that allows women to be far more influential and effective in accomplishing every one of their own goals in the workplace.

Shaunti’s findings are equally eye-opening in personal relationships; her books, such as For Women Only: What You Need to Know About the Inner Lives of Men, have sold 2 million copies in 20 languages.  Currently consulting and speaking globally for women leadership audiences, Shaunti has appeared on media outlets as diverse as The Today Show, CNN, Fox, PBS, Soap Talk, Focus on the Family and Family Life Today.

Shaunti’s tips for being a transformational leader:

Know yourself. If you don’t truly understand your strengths and weaknesses, you cannot play to your strengths, and you certainly will not compensate for your weaknesses.  But if you know who you are, and what you can do, and rigorously focus on that, while turning down seductive opportunities at which you will not shine, you’ll not only be great at what you do, but you’ll be very fulfilled!  And a positive, fulfilled leader is a transformational leader.

Know and manage how you are perceived . One of the great missing pieces of the puzzle for many potentially great leaders is not recognizing how they are perceived.  The most important issue is not just that you have excellent leadership gifts, and a lot to offer.  Rather, the most important issue is whether others see you that way!  You can only be a leader if others see you as someone to follow.  And so you need to know how you are perceived and take charge of that perception.

Know your audience. But you can only do that if you know your audience.  If you do not understand the inner, private thoughts, expectations and perceptions of those you are speaking to, you can never manage how you yourself are perceived.  You won’t recognize a misperception and be able to head it off, and you also will miss great signals that tell you that you have an opportunity here on which you can capitalize.  But once you are skilled at reading your audience – at getting inside their heads, at understanding their private expectations, you can speak to those expectations and position yourself as the person who always “gets it” in their eyes.   The person who “gets it”, who reads others like a book, who is able to articulate back to them what they most desire, is a person who others will follow.

Gwen Massey was born and raised in Tyler, Texas. After completing her BSN at the University of Texas at Tyler, Gwen worked as nurse across many different disciplines. After experiencing the benefits of home health and hospice care firsthand with her grandmother, Gwen became a hospice nurse.  After a number of years in hospice nursing, Gwen felt the tug of entrepreneurship, wanting to provide a unique service, filling a need she observed in the senior community.  The result was the genesis of Senior Care Finder and Consultants two years ago. Recognizing that finding the proper services can be a challenge for seniors and their families, Gwen stepped in to fill this need.

With over 30 years of experience as an RN, Gwen assists seniors and their families identify their needs, helping them find the proper care and services to fit those needs. Gwen can be reached by phone at 214-546-1935 or by email at info@theseniorcarefinder.com. You can also visit their website at www.theseniorcarefinder.com.

Born, raised and educated in south central Louisiana, Janice Simien has spent a good bit of her career helping seniors as they transition from their own homes to independent and assisted living communities.  She started this work as the result of a friend that invited her to investigate a career helping seniors.  Today Jan is the Community Relations Director for Emeritus at Sandy Springs Place, a memory care community in Sandy Springs.  Emeritus at Sandy Springs Place is a 52 room community with four wings that provide care for residents in each of the three stages of dementia.  Jan tells us that she loves her job because she recognizes that families are delegating a very important role when they trust Emeritus with the care of their loved one.

To arrange a tour of the Emeritus campus, please call Jan at 770-650-8800.  The community is located at 1262 Hightower Trail in Sandy Springs.  You can also check them out on the web here.

Today’s guests present their unique perspectives on the power of writing.  Dr. Tim Langley, a chiropractor in Marietta, GA, blogs to share stories of success, improvement and re-establishment of health within his clients.  Dr. Tim’s writing style generates an image of the “old, family doctor” who always had time to talk with each patient.  Tim’s blog promotes his chiropractic practice but occasionally he draws upon his years in banking and real estate to share his views on the economy.  Charles Forlidas is a Member of the law firm of Miller & Martin PLLC in their Atlanta office.  Charles concentrates his practice in the areas of trademarks, patents, copyrights, and intellectual property. Business leaders and entrepreneurs know the importance of having legal counsel for their business endeavors.  Writers need to follow suit and have an intellectual property attorney in their “corner” for two reasons: 1) protect their writing and 2) make sure they don’t misuse the writings of others. Mr. Forlidas will share pertinent legal points writers should know.

Dr. Amanda Mueller, Au.D. grew up in Norman, Oklahoma before moving to Texas to attend Baylor University.  At Baylor, her interest in audiology developed after taking some courses in the field.  She graduated from Baylor and then completed her Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) at the University of Texas at Dallas/Callier Center in 2005. During her training, she researched patient outcomes from humanitarian audiology services provided by ComCareInternational.org.  Dr. Mueller enjoys the science and technology behind the audiology field and strives to provide her patients with the best possible solution.

After practicing in a clinic for 5 years, Dr. Mueller decided to open her own house call practice “Hear at Home” where she provides audiology services in the comfort of her patients’ homes.

Dr. Mueller and her husband Bert met and married at their church and have been blessed with two precious boys and a beautiful baby girl!  Contact Dr. Mueller through her website at www.hearathome.us or by calling 855-Hear-at-Home (855-432-7284).

To say that Larry Black has a diverse background and set of interests would be an understatement.  Larry began his career in radio broadcasting as a way to pay for school.  He was on of the first broadcasters for ESPN!  He is also an instructor for PKA Full Contact Karate.  Larry went on to a career in information technology with a number of companies.  Then, he tried his hand at retirement.  Not content to collect shells on the beach, he opened a business called “A Computer Partner”.

Larry, as a senior himself, is attuned to the needs of seniors as they relate to computers and internet usage.  He tells Eugeria! that “change” is the largest obstacle that seniors face in becoming computer proficient.  He goes on to say that anyone, no matter their age, can learn to use a computer and the internet.  Larry provides a full range of technology services to seniors, from computer selection and set-up to repair and maintenance in the senior’s home.  For more information, contact Larry at (770) 314-2400, email him at larry@a-computer-partner.com, or visit his website at www.a-computer-partner.com.
