About half of all Americans eat fish once a week. A I’d bet the vast majority are eating some kind of fried fillet of fish sandwich as some fast food joint. The benefits of eating fish and and most all seafood clearly outweighs the health risks. But please prepare the seafood in a healthy manner. That means more grilling and baking not frying. Fish have lots of vitamins and minerals that help us stay healthy and most fish has less calories and bad fat with as much protein than the other meats. Plus some fish come jam packed with good omega 3 fats that you won’t find in other meats. Sure eat less swordfish and shark – but why not add some more salmon to you meals this week?

It seems that people in the US get skin cancer on the left side of their face and body more than the right side. Researchers think that may have to do with the way we drive. The windshield and windows of your car block most of the UV rays but if you drive with the window down you are letting in more of the dangerous rays. I guess the best way to see if this theory is accurate is to go to Britain and check to see if their drivers have a lot more skin cancer issues on the right side of their face and body because their steering wheel is on the right side. Any British dermatologists out there have an opinion on this?

Haven Home Health compressedTiming is everything!  Particularly for Aqua Umoren.  Originally from Seattle Washington, Aqua moved to New Orleans to attend Xavier University.  After receiving his Bachelors Degree in Management, he went on to attend the University of New Orleans for his Masters.  Early in 2004, Aqua made a decision to move to the Dallas area to pursue his career – several months before Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans.  Today, Aqua is Area Director for Haven Home Health.  He loves the philosophy of the company that focuses on both the welfare of their staff, and the direct interaction and service to their patients.

Olivia Haynes seems to have missed her true calling, as she is an absolute NATURAL on the air!  A Dallas native, Olivia strayed from Texas long enough to earn a degree at the University of Oklahoma.  She has spent her career in human resources, getting her feet wet in the healthcare industry at a long term care facility.  A year and a half, she found her home at Haven Home Health, where she works as a Senior Healthcare Recruiter.  She tells us that she particularly looks for staff that are critical thinkers and exceptional communicators.  She prides Haven Home Health on the quality of their staff, and, as such, is extremely careful about the prospective employees that she invites to join the team.  To get more information about Haven Home Health, call them at (972) 644-3000, or visit them on the web at www.3hllc.com.

After gruaduating from college, Durbin, SandraSandra Durbin moved from Ohio to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to work with juvenile delinquents in Ft. Lauderdale.  After moving to Atlanta, she decided to change careers.  Little did she know she would simply be working with OLDER juvenile delinquents.  Today, Sandra is a Senior Director of Community Relations for Brighton Gardens of Dunwoody.  Brighton Gardens is part of the Sunrise family, and thus the oldest assisted living company in the US.  Having worked for Sunrise for a number of years now, Sandra loves the sense of community at Sunrise.  One of the unique projects being undertaken by Brighton Gardens is their Ageless Design Symposium.  Coming up from May 13 to May 15, Brighton Gardens of Dunwoody will be taking four of their apartments and showcasing Aging in Place improvements to help seniors stay in their homes as their conditions progress – whether physical or cognitive.  In addition, join Brighton Gardens on May 19 for a Taste of Sunrise.  Brighton Gardens is also hosting both a Mothers Day Brunch or a Father’s Day Barbecue that will benefit the Diabetes Association.  To find out more, contact Sandra at 678-896-5650, visit them on the web at www.bgdunwoody.com, or stop by their Ashford Center location in Dunwoody for a tour!

Welcome to Write Here, Write Now.

April 13, 2011 by angishields

If you have looked around this mini-website, you have already learned that our focus is talking with business leaders, entrepreneurs and professional about their work and the book they have written, are in the process of writing or that they intend to write someday. The overall purpose of the show is to encourage everyone who has ever dreamed of writing a book “someday” to do just that. With business leaders, entrepreneurs and professionals, Stone and I will get them to share their writing stories: the struggles, the fun, the celebrations, the breaking out in cold sweat moments and ultimately the magic of holding in their hands their very own book.

I intend to “mix it up” a bit with the guests: experienced authors, emerging authors, planning to become an author, publishers, layout and cover design people. Most of the time the guests will be in the studio; occasionally I’ll reach out across the country to “bring in” by phone a special guest to share insights and experiences.

I welcome your suggestions for guests, issues you would like to have addressed that pertain to writing and questions you might have.

Join Stone and me and our guests, live each Tuesday morning at 10:00 or by audio file at your convenience when business leaders, entrepreneurs and professional come together to discuss the power of the pen and its impact on their business: Write Here, Write Now.

Here is a twist on the classic pasta and meatballs recipe. Dr Fitness found these veggie meatballs from Veggie Patch that he says you have to try. Make your marinara sauce like you usually do – Dr Fitness likes to add some freshly chopped tomatoes to his gravy. Cook up your meatballs then toss them into the sauce and let that cook some more. Make whatever pasta you like – we like the Barilla Plus

Preparing this tilapia piccata recipe is pretty easy – for lovers of the piccata you can easily modify this for chicken. Get one saute pan ready with olive oil, cooking wine, lemon juice, capers, spices and lots of baby spinach (which you will add last because it magically shrinks to about 1/10 of the original heap of spinach you start with). Now take 4 six ounce tilapia fillets and dip them in a bath of flour then toss them into your heated saute pan that contains everything but the spinach. Cook for a couple of minutes on each side then add the spinach. Serve over whole wheat pasta or brown rice.

Receiverships offer an alternative process for the successful resolution of a troubled asset. As a neutral, third-party fiduciary, a receiver can ensure a distressed property is protected and preserved.  Additionally, a receiver can move swiftly in order to maintain the value of the property. Special guests Andrew J. Bolnick and Graham H. Stieglitz discuss the process for how a receiver is appointed, the role of the receiver and the key elements and benefits of a receivership.

Andrew is founder and president of Andrew Bolnick & Associates and has nearly 30 years of experience as a professional receiver and trustee over a wide variety of large commercial properties and businesses throughout the country.  His services include property management, operation of homeowner associations, completion of construction, working with local, county and state governments and regulatory agencies, taxing districts and all interested parties and developing and implementing marketing and sales programs.  E-Mail Andrew Bolnick.

Graham is a creditors’ rights and bankruptcy partner at Burr & Forman LLP and is resident in the Atlanta office. Graham assists clients with commercial reorganizations and workouts as well as transactional and litigation issues involving commercial transactions, receiverships, real estate and other business-related matters.  E-Mail Graham Stieglitz.
