Is using your cellphone dangerous? Cellphones placed next to your head do increase neuron activity. But is that a bad thing? Who knows. Dr Fitness thinks there is something to this so he uses a crazy headset that looks like it is out of the movie Sleeper to give him protection from these supposedly harmful rays.   Sure he can’t hear his calls that well but he thinks he is  protecting that precious brain of his from cellphone radiation. So that makes him feel better. Other simpler things you can do are: use a headset, use the speaker system in your car and text instead of talk.

Hearthstone compressedHearthstone Senior Services was founded in 1993, and is headquartered in Houston, Texas.  Their mission is to provide quality and affordable assisted living care and services that offer value and exceed the expectations of our residents and their families.  That is exactly what Rhonda Bitner, Executive Director of Hearthstone at Irving, and her team strive to do every day.  Though Rhonda didn’t start her career in senior services, she tells us that it has been a blessing to her for the past ten years, and she can’t see doing anything else.  Liz Johnson is Hearthstone at Irving’s Resident Care Director.  She is in charge of all aspects of care for Hearthstone’s residents.  And while she downplays her role, Rhonda confides that Liz does yeoman’s work, and is an absolutely essential part of the team!  One of Hearthstone’s differentiators is their food.  Chef Mike Gantz is the responsible for truly making food something extraordinary at Hearthstone.  From the fresh ingredients to the nutritionally balanced meals to the recipes contributed by residents and their families, Mike make the dining experience at Hearthstone exceptional.  For more information about Hearthstone at Irving, stop by for a tour at 2425 Texas Drive in Irving, call them at 972-659-6800, or visit them on the web at www.hscsal.com.

Compassionate Care Hospice compressed

“You don’t find hospice, hospice finds you!”  This is the sentiment of all three of our guests from Compassionate Care Hospice.  Linde Bors, Jona Payne and Tammie Yost are all Hospice Liaisons for Compassionate Care.  And while they all have different life experiences that led them to hospice as a career, they all feel that hospice found them!  Jona and Linde are native Georgians, while Tammie is a foreigner (from Alabama).  They were drawn to Compassionate Care Hospice because this organization is dedicated to “creating and experience” for their patients and families.  Specifically, they recommend that families not wait to start celebrating a loved one’s life, and planning for that loved one’s ultimate departure from life.  Tammie noted that studies show that patients actually live longer, and their final days are more fulfilling if they take advantage of the benefits of hospice.  One of Compassionate Care Hospice’s differentiators is the Cardiac Program.  This program enables cardiac patients to stay in their homes longer, and receive certain services that may not be available in other hospice programs.  To learn more about Compassionate Care Hospice, call them at 770-220-2723, or visit them on the web at www.cchnet.net.

No one is too busy to workout. That is just a fact. I don’t care how many kids you have, how much extra curricular activities they each participate in or that you work three jobs. If the President of the United States can find time to work out so can you. Here are the tips busy people do in order to get their workout in…

  1. Forget about all or nothing. A short workout or a bad workout is better than no workout
  2. Multi -task – when you are at one of those events for your kids – instead of sitting on the bleachers reading a book – go for a run
  3. Mix it up. Don’t have time for a long run then do sprints, or intervals or boot camp drills. Just because you don’t have time to do your favorite exercise doesn’t give you permission to do nothing.
  4. Wake up earlier. Sure you love to sleep – sure3 you need to sleep. but wake up 30 minutes earlier a few times a week to get in your workout. It won’t kill you in fact it will keep you alive longer.

Who is a better role model for winning over your cravings then Charlie Sheen? He has shown the world what it looks like when you succumb to your cravings and what it looks like when you stand tall and fight off those cravings. This advice should work for food cravings, drug cravings… even hookers. Here is what we’ve learned…

  • Don’t over stimulate your self with lots of choices.
  • Plan ahead. Anticipate moments of weakness and prepare for them in advance.
  • Manage your stress. Dealing with stress in a healthy productive manner will help you through those tough times. Remember Charlie always gets his workout in – so should you.
  • Get enough sleep. The more you sleep the less time you’ll have to give in to your cravings –

There are not enough meals where the lettuce is the wrap. Lettuce makes a great wrap for a couple reasons, – one it has no calories and two you can find leaves of lettuce to hold just about anything. Go with romaine lettuce. Saute up some ground turkey meat or your favorite ground protein in sesame oil. Add in some garlic, ginger, chicken broth, spices and hoisin sauce. Throw that on your lettuce and wrap it up.

This is a kind of pizza burrito recipe. Take a whole wheat tortilla wrap. Slather on your favorite pizza sauce, some baby spinach and some mozzarella cheese. Wrap that bad boy up and toss it in the microwave for a bit until the cheese gets all melty. This pizza roll up is a quick and easy meal for any child or even the Fat Guy has been known to toss back a couple of these.

We talked about stuff like keynoting the FitBloggin 11 conference, a great corned beef and cabbage recipe we found on Weight Watchers website and how surprised we were that our buddy Lisa Lillien didn’t have one on her Hungry Girl website.,

We are running a new Twitter contest on our Facebook page. It works like this. We are given 3 tweets from Meghann Anderson and we have to match up the tweet with the fitness celeb that tweeted it. This weeks tweets are from @HungryGirl, @Bethenny and @KirstieAlley.

  1. GREAT NEWS…last weight falling off like melting butter…BAD NEWS….that butter was filling in all the cracks on my face…hehe…LIFE
  2. I should only drink skinnygirl cocktails.2 glasses wine last PM&i feel like hell.about to do KTLA am show.hope host doesn’t light a match.
  3. Why do vegetarian hot dogs taste like Band-aids? Ewww! Anyone out there know of any good-tasting veg dogs? SPEAK!!!! :)

Both Dr Fitness and I said that #1 was Kirstie Alley; #2 was Bethenny Frankel and #3 was Lisa Lillien. One randomly selected Facebook fan who guesses right wins something – probably an exercise dvd or two.

Our guest today was Sam Tickle star of the Unstoppable Tour.
