Baby strollers are a necessary evil for every new parent. You have to ask yourself – do I want my kid to be driving around in a Volvo or a Miata. Some parents go for the stroller that takes a team to break it down and put it in the car and get it out again. The real reason most people buy minivans are because they need a vehicle large enough to hold their stroller. The moment my kid could hold his head up we moved to one of those cheapy umbrella strollers that fold down in about a second and fit on the floor of your backseat. You runners should consider the jogging stroller made of those super lightweight titanium metals so you can run without hurting your back. Whichever stroller path you decide to go down – remember to fill out the registration form and send it back – that is the best way to be alerted if your stroller is ever part of a recall.

Twenty-four years ago, Stephen Seidel heard an interview on the news with Jimmy Carter and was inspired to pick up a hammer and an apron and get involved as a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity in his local Minneapolis, St.Paul affiliate.  Twenty four years later, Stephen Seidel serves the same organization as the Senior Director for the organization’s  Global Program Design and Implementation.  Among other profound principles, one that struck me most was how he has been able to blend his passion with his career. Great life lesson for all of us.

In this moving interview, you will hear about how Habitat for Humanity International allowed the difficult economic times to forge new innovative ways of thinking.  It’s really an amazing story as Stephen illustrates the impact by opening a window into their new work in what was a deteriorating neighborhood of Milwaukee.  Listen as he talks about how because of this new work, people are now back on their front porch greeting neighbors as they walk by and strolling to the local merchants that once were closed up but now thriving.

Amazing story. Moving interview. Tranformational work. Listen in and I think you will agree.

Who doesn’t like tacos? Here’s a way to make them kind of healthy. Use pinto beans instead of meat. Go heavier on the shredded romaine lettuce, use a freshly made salsa, throw in some crushed garlic cloves and some avocado. Eat a couple of those bad boys in a taco shell and you are good to go.

Flat out wraps are a great tool for easy meals. Grill up some chicken. Chop it up and put it in the center of the wrap. Throw in some of your favorite veggies like: shredded romaine lettuce, peppers, tomatoes and onions. Cheese is an option. Now its time to wrap this meal up and eat.

Pizza is one of the main food groups we eat. There is no way we would ever want to live in a world that didn’t have pizza in it. But when you are trying to lose weight or get in shape pizza may not help you achieve your goals. So what to do? Never eat pizza again or find a way to make it work. We pick number 2. Here are 5 ways to cut the calories from your next slice of pizza.

  1. Go thin crust – sorry deep dish fans – but thin crust has less calories.
  2. Try whole wheat – this might be blasphemy – but give it a try – you might be pleasantly surprised
  3. Substitute veggies for meat – more veggies less meat saves a ton of calories and is healthier
  4. Slice it up – have your pizza joint cut your pizza into 16 slices instead of 8. The 2 slices you usually eat is now really only one slice.
  5. Dab the cheese – take a napkin and dab off the extra oil before you take a bite – this saves a handful of calories as well
