In the past men and women have been calculating their max heart rate by subtracting their age from 220. New research seems to suggest that women should use a different formula. On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on our good friend Valerie Orsoni, creator of Le BootCamp, Europe’s favorite online weight loss and fitness support website with over 600,000 members. Valerie shared details about the new Vampire Diet that she wrote about in the Huffington post – that is sweeping Hollywood. It seems those fad diet loving Hollywood folks are now eating something red at every meal. It seems like a subtle Twilight promotion, but this diet is very limiting – name some red foods: tomato, red pepper, red meat, cherries – see the list is pretty short. A better weight loss tip is to take small steps each day rather than looking for a miracle diet. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share a favorite Dr Fitness’ favorite olive salad recipe. Gather a bunch of different olive: green, black and kalamata. They have to be pitted and drained. Then mix together some grape tomatoes, mozzarella cheese garlic and basil. then mix everything together with olive oil, balsamic vinegar and roasted red peppers. In recent research that will not surprise anyone who has a child it seems that kids prefer foods that are associated with their favorite cartoon characters. On the surface this may seem like bad news – but in reality parents can take this information and use it to their advantage. How about filling bags with fruit slices and vegetables and slapping cartoon stickers all over it and then give that to your kids to make it more appealing. Experience is the best teacher and Louis Foreman has an arm-long resume that qualifies him as a leader in the world on innovation and startups. He is founder and Chief Executive of Enventys, an integrated product design and engineering firm with offices in Charlotte, NC and Taiwan.

His interest in starting businesses and developing innovative products began while a sophomore with his first company founded in his fraternity room. Over the past 20 years Louis has created 9 successful start-ups and has been directly responsible for the creation of over 20 others. A prolific inventor, he is the inventor of 10 registered US Patents, and his firm is responsible for the development and filing of well over 400 more. Louis is the creator of the Emmy® Award winning PBS TV show, Everyday Edisons and serves as the Executive Producer and lead judge.

The casting calls of Everyday Edisons led to the formation of Edison Nation, a safe place for idea people to discover opportunity and share “in the trenches” inventing stories from around the world.

Louis was a founding member of The Inventors Network of the Carolinas, a non-profit organization that empowers inventors through education, support, and networking opportunities. Louis currently serves as a board member for the Entrepreneurial Leadership Council at Queens University, and the Central Piedmont Community College Small Business Advisory Board.

In 2008 he was appointed by United States Secretary of Commerce Carlos M. Gutierrez to serve for a three year term on the nine-person Patent Public Advisory Committee of the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share a favorite green bean recipe.  With local farmers markets opening everywhere around the country – it is a great time to try new ways to add fresh vegetables to your healthy eating diet. Also experiment and try different vegetables and ask the farmer how he/she makes the vegetables. For this recipe steam 4 cups fresh green beans. For the sauce mix sherry, olive oil, fresh garlic and limes. We used to call green beans green french fries to get our kid to eat them. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain how chewing ice might be a clue that you have anemia. Craving ice and chewing ice might be symptoms of anemia. Anemia is a decrease in your red blood cells – which cause an iron deficiency. The ice and extreme cold soothes this discomfort for some people.
