In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explains how to protect yourself from falling in your home. Broken hips are one of the most common reasons seniors are hospitalized and incapacitated. Some of the ways to prevent falling at home, (which is a common reason seniors break their hips) are: to get rid of loose rugs in the house; also make sure stairs are well lit and clear of any object; put handrails in the showers, keep a flashlight near the bed for those late night trips to the bathroom; and put slip resistant trugs in the bathrooms. On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on Leslie Bonci, sports Dietitian for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Penguins and the Pittsburgh Pirates. She is also the author of the new book Sports Nutrition for Coaches. On the show she shared some great nutrition tips for athletes and their trainers. Some of the common mistakes she said that trainers make with their athletes are not giving them enough information regarding how food and fluids can improve their performance. She says that since different sports have different metabolic demands that each athletes food and fluid requirements are different – so it is important to eat and drink for your needs. She also said that their is too much emphasis on protein consumption and not enough on eating carbohydrates. She isn’t a big fan of not eating before workouts then drinking protein shakes afterward. She says trainers also have to be aware of eating disorders in athletes especially those in weight class sports like wrestling and gymnastics. She says planning meals before working out is critical.  To learn more about Leslie and her book please go to www.sportsmedicine.upmc.com

In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy details how you can protect yourself from cruise ship germs. A recent report on the cleanliness of cruise public bathrooms uncovered some disturbing things. While the bathrooms look visibly clean only about half the bathrooms were properly disinfected. The germs found in the bathrooms could have been the cause of the recent outbreak of stomach illnesses on cruises. So remember when you are on a cruise or in any public bathroom make usre to wash your hands thoroughly with soap, water and lots of rubbing. The friction from rubbing your hands together with the soapy water is what gets rid of the germs. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. Laurie Mandato
Laurie Mandato

Today on The Chic Perspectives Show, I had on Wardrobe and Style Consultant Laurie Mandato to talk about fashion and style.  As some of you know, my take on “style” has less to do with following the trends and more to do with finding yourself.  Laurie’s philosophy is also all about authenticity and she knows that people feel better when they look good.

Laurie talked about how she empowers women to be confident in the bodies they have, while giving them the tools they need to reach their own version of perfection.  Laurie talks about her passion for working with speakers, authors, executive leaders, coaches and consultants who are stepping into the spotlight and what they can do to match their image to their message so they can feel fabulous and confident in the role of speaker.

Laurie also talked about how she recovered from the fabulous SHINE event put on by Ali Brown in Las Vegas with some scheduled R & R out at Canyon Ranch – a resort I know all too well, having recently spoken there for a few days with my friend and business partner Ana Weber as part of our Your 48 Hour Day seminars.  Tips like this are available on Laurie’s website

Laurie also explains how what you wear on the outside is a reflection of what you feel on the inside and how to use colors, fabrics, and tailoring to enhance you inner light.

There is a strength that comes from expressing your authentic self, and when you find your individual style that you can wear with confidence.

Thanks Laurie for spending time with us today and sharing your Chic Perspective on how entrepreneurs can use style to maximize the first impression they make on others and increase their overall earning power.

Mitchell is a licensed Physical Therapist and has spent years helping his patients avoid unnecessary drugs and surgery while freeing them from pain indefinitely. Mitchell explained that a lot of pain is caused by muscle weakness or muscle imbalance and that the right exercise can make your pain disappear. He said a lot of chronic pain is misdiagnosed as acute pain.  He says that most doctors rely on x-rays or MRI’s for their initial diagnosis which then leads to an improper diagnosis and treatment plan. To learn more about his unique pain relief treatment please go to his website www.mitchellyass.com

Welcome to Kid Power Radio. I’m your host Max and each week I review what’s happening on TV, at the movies, books and music I like ….You get the idea

We have one of my favorite authors on the show today…Michael Buckley. He is the author of the book Nerds and many other books.

Welcome to the show Michael.

As a kid did you know that you were going to be such a great author when you grew up?

For the book Nerds how did you think up the idea for nerds being top secret spies?

I took the code name generator quiz on the Nerds website and my code name was Funky Monkey since I smelled so bad. If you were a member of Nerds what would be your code name and power be?

In the book Nerds, Duncan is the only one who is nice to Jackson at the beginning. Why is that?

How did you write Nerds. Did you just sit there waiting for ideas to pop in you your head? Did you only write when and idea came to mind?

How long did you work on Nerds before it finally came out to stores?

Did you base any of the characters off of you or anyone you know?

Are you working on any new books? (Are you going to write a sequel for Nerds?)

Do want to tell our listeners where they can get Nerds?

NERDS Book Website www.teamnerds.com

Do you have any shout outs?

Thanks for the interview! Bye!

There can even be caffeine inside ice cream – and we’re not just talking Starbucks Coffee ice cream either. Check the labels if you have caffeine sensitivities or have trouble sleeping because their are a lot of surprising caffeinated foods and beverages out there.
