Everyone knows food safety is important but even the smartest people do dumb things when it comes to avoiding food poisoning. Do not leave meat out on the counter to defrost. Defrost meat in the refrigerator or in ice in the sink. Always put the thermometer in your refrigerator and make sure it never gets above 40 degrees F in there. On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy opened the show with our personal weight loss coach Marta Montenegro. Marta is the founder of SobeFit Magazine and creator of the Montenegro Method.  A big congrats to Marta’s husband who recently took Silver in a Masters Judo competition that was held here in Atlanta.  Marta coached us up and has us ready to achieve our fitness and weight loss goal. We have lost over 25 pounds in total and are both highly motivated to lose weight now. Marta explained the benefit of adding strength training to our weight loss program to boost our metabolism and and really changing the shapes of our bodies. She said that we should make one small change and stick with that one until it becomes a habit then move on to the next small change. Marta also reminded us to vote for the Fittest Person. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain some basic food  safety tips so you can avoid food poisoning.  Did you know that most bathrooms are cleaner than most kitchens – how gross is that? Millions of people each year go to the doctor because of a bout of food poisoning and millions more suffer without going to the doctor. Here are some easy tips for you to protect yourself and your family. Red meat shouldn’t be brown until after you cook it. Canned foods should be dented or have bulges. Bleach is your friend – use it on cutting boards, plastic drinking containers and kitchen counters. Buy a thermometer for your refrigerator and make sure it doesn’t dip below 40 degrees F.
