On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on Jim Karas, author of the Number 1 New York Times Best Selling books  Business Plan for the Body and Cardio-Free Diet. Jim has a new book out that is titled The 7 Day Energy Surge. So if you feel tired all the time – if you need a cup of coffee just to get the energy to make a pot of coffee then this book is for you. Jim explains a few simple adjustments to your mind and your daily habits that will help you lose weight, sleep better, improve your sex life and energize your life in just 7 days. Here are some tips Jim talked about: Drink enough water and green tea – most people go through the day dehydrated which causes your body to go into a stress state. Cut out all those sugar drinks including juice but more like sports drinks and sodas. He says that white flour and white sugar products just steal energy from you – so avoid anything that has them in it. So if you are ready to energize your life check this book out. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy help you prevent some common exercise mistakes. Do you load up on energy bars or sports drinks before or after your workout. Forget about those high calorie things you’re not Lance Armstrong training for the Tour de France. Do you forget to warm up or do what the Fat Guy does and warm up as you go? You might be able to get away with that when you’re young but as you get older you have to warm up. If the only way you modify your strength training workout is by lifting more and more weight, fuggaboutit. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share some of their favorite weight loss tips. You have to pre plan things if you are serious about losing weight. That means on the weekend cut up a bunch of veggies that you will throughout the week. It also means knowing what you are having for dinner so you know how much to eat for breakfast and lunch. Write things down – nothing will stop you from overeating if you have no idea how much you’ve already eaten that day. If you can look at your food journal and see that you’ve eaten half your calories by lunch time that means you better put the brakes on for dinner. Losing weight is math. If you don’t keep track of the calories you’re consuming you’ll never see the numbers on the scale get smaller. Get exercise in as much as you can – and make it vigorous. Strolls to the mailbox might be good when you are just starting out but after awhile you have to crank up the intensity. Don’t starve yourself – when you are famished bad things happen (like blowing your diet on one Ben and Jerry fest)  – using healthy low cal snacks to take the edge off those crazy hunger pangs. Peanut allergies are sometimes so severe that a person’s airways can become so swollen they can’t breathe. In schools kids with peanut allergies are relegated to a peanut free table in the back of the cafeteria. There may be hope.
