In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share some of the most unhealthy foods found at your grocery store. As anyone who has kids knows the breakfast cereal aisle is the danger zone. Most breakfast cereal might as well be put in the candy aisle. Margarine is another food that came along and was supposed to be a healthier choice over butter but since margarine is loaded with trans fats you should stick to butter. Doughnuts and chips are two more items that usually don’t make up a nutritious meal. Sure they taste great and you can indulge once in awhile – I wouldn’t make them part of  your everyday meals. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain some reasons why you eat too much. I know for a fact I overeat when I eat directly out of a package or use a large plate or bowl. I will eat whatever is in front of me so if someone hands me a bag of chips I will not stop eating until the bag is empty. Every bag is a single serve container to me. Don’t do that put your snakcs in small portion correct bowls and put the rest away. Another reason people overeat is when they deprive themselves from a craving they eventually weaken and gorge themselves on whatever that craving was – usually chocolate related in my case. On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on opened the show with Dr Joel Fuhrman who explained the connection between osteoporosis and exercise and good nutrition.

Dr Fuhrman insists that exercise is way more effective than drugs. He said that harmful, often unnecessary drugs are being touted as the panacea for osteoporosis. He concedes that medications can have a slight benefit in severe cases,  but for more mild cases he says they may offer minimal benefits to one’s bones and can cause unpleasant and serious
side effects. “These drugs are not only costly and unnecessary, in some cases, can be dangerous,” explains the good physician and author.

On the other hand, says Dr. Fuhrman, “with reasonable effort, you can take your bone health into your own hands. Osteoporosis can be combated most effectively without medication through proper nutrition and exercise.”

With osteoporosis occurring in epidemic proportions— it affects 8 million American women and 2 million men, causing 1.5 million fractures each year— it is never too early to start protecting yourself, says Dr. Fuhrman.

In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain what happens after you get a facelift. Women and now more and more men are getting facelifts to remove wrinkles and smooth the skin on their faces. So we wanted to share a little bit about what happens post surgery. Your face will be bandaged for a day or two after and their might be some pain – their will be some swelling and bruising for up to a couple of weeks after you get the face lift. Some people are not satisfied with the results – so choose your surgeon carefully and set realistic expectations. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share some ways to treat minor dental problems. These do it yourself dentist tricks may help you when your dentist isn’t around. If you have some jaw soreness you might try sleeping on your side or back not on your face – or if that doesn’t work try massaging the area. If one of your teeth starts to get really sensitive you might want to avoid those abrasive tartar control toothpastes and go with a brand for sensitive teeth for awhile. And don’t brush your teeth too hard. If you have burned the roof of your mouth with coffee or pizza try rinsing your mouth out with salt water to speed up the healing. (MRSA is not a virus – Thanks Nathan) There has been a dramatic rise in the number of people infected with MRSA. In fact several NFL stars have been hospitalized over the last few years. MRSA affects mostly men. Doctors are seeing it more in healthy males who plays sports – they will get a skin cut or burn then moisture from the shower, where the bacteria lays and waits makes it easy to infect the person. If you have an abcess or cut that is infected and is not healing properly get it checked out. You don’t want to mess with MRSA. About 100,000 people are infected each year.
