This morning we had on Katy Elder, Manager of the Employee Volunteer Program at The Home Depot Foundation. And Kate Lee, former Manager of Community Affairs at The Home Depot. They spoke about corporate philanthropy.

Both Katy and Kate spoke at length about the importance of being a good corporate citizen. This does not always mean writing big checks either. There are lots of ways companies help their communities. It might be money, but it also might be having employees volunteer their time.

Katy talked about some of the programs Home Depot is involved in including their KaBoom program that builds playgrounds in under-served communities, their Hands on Schools program and their tree planting program as well. For more information about the philanthropy that The Home Depot is involved in and to see if they can help your group please go to their website www.homedepotfoundation.org.

Kate explained that she now provides consulting in Community and Public Affairs for small to mid-sized companies. She teaches companies how philanthropy can help their bottom line. Being a good corporate citizen shows your customers that you “do good” and customers appreciate that. It also improves employee morale, retention and recruitment. For more information about Kate please email her at katelee @ earthlink.net.

Since it is National Volunteer month you should explore some of the ways your company can get involved. One great resource for companies of all sizes is the Metro Atlanta Corporate Volunteers Council, their website is www.macvc.org

Next up we had Jim Aden with PlantMakers. PlantMakers has developed a green and eco-friendly way to grow live plants without dirt and water so they can easily be shipped by UPS or FedEx anywhere in the country at prices below a typical FTD offering. Jim was on explaining their brand new fund-raising initiative. Organizations can order plants on-line on a custom portal created just for them and 25% of all revenues generated throughout the year goes back to the organization. For more information about how you can get involved please go to their website www.GoGreenPlanters.Atlanta.com

Also if you know of a business owner in Atlanta that we should know about please email Amy Otto at Amy @ atlantabusinessradio.com and we will try and get him or her on the show.

This morning we had on marketer Bernadette Peters, owner of Natural Marketing Services and Mike Wittenstein, Chief Experience Officer with Storyminers.

Bernadette started us off by explaining that her passion is to help businesses attract clients and build strong relationships. One of her beliefs is that the holy grail of marketing is to not have to do it . . . however realistically a successful business can hope to discover marketing initiatives that are at least semi-automated. She thinks that small business owners should always test their marketing before rolling out extensive campaigns. She comes from a direct marketing background and feels that each piece should have some sort of tracking device, that may be a coupon, a backline phone number or a unique url. For more information about Bernadette and her firm please go to her website www.naturalmarketingservices.com

Next up we had on Mike Wittenstein, CEO (Chief Experience Officer) of Storyminers.

Storyminers help you find out what are your customers are privately saying about their experiences with your company. They help you discover the factors (often surprising) that would vault you past the competition. With Mike’s and the rest of his team’s help you’ll be able to hear the real voices of your customers.
Mike explained that meaningful customer experiences occur when your company puts the things customers care most about at the heart of your brand, then designs in the capability to deliver on-brand experiences every time. He believes that a business should make the right promise to their customers for the right reasons and then keep that promise. For more information about Mike and his company please go to their website www.storyminers.com

This morning we have Part 2 in our series about how to make your medical practice more profitable and run smoother.

First we had on Iris Grimm creator of the Balanced Physician Success Program.
The Balanced Physician program is an intense, action-oriented program that addresses the interpersonal and personal challenges of physicians and teaches them the skills to: Control the stress that they face daily; Feel energized and positive at the end of the day when they get home to their family; Be able to have time for themselves their golf game or favorite hobby without neglecting their family; Take their patient service to a higher level with a highly motivated and satisfied staff and realize their expectations of building a successful practice that makes a difference to their patients.

Increasingly, healthcare organizations realize the importance of programs that address interpersonal skills, behavior and the personal performance of physicians.

Long-lasting change and improvements of these important skills cannot be achieved through an individual presentation; they need to have effective follow-through. For more information please go to her website www.balancedphysican.com

Next we had on Ann Schaeker with SurgiMed Services. In today’s modern practice, computers and software should alleviate all the hassles of complicated and tedious business processes. Unfortunately, practices quickly find they lack the knowledge, personnel, and time to efficiently manage their systems and their cash flow begins to spiral out of control. There are few doctors that enjoy this aspect of their practice & even fewer that can afford the time to become further involved in billing, administration, & staff management.

SurgiMed © Services offers your practice a real solution, in a convenient and affordable way. We are a full service billing and practice management company working to serve today’s Health Care Professional. SMSI has over 50 years combined experience in insurance filing and billing for medical practices. They have a highly trained staff of specialists who can provide an immediate boost in cash flow and reduced AR for you. Most importantly they allow your staff to concentrate on patient care by freeing them from the frustrating and time-consuming headaches of billing and administration. SurgiMed © Services is not only limited to assisting Medical practices but also offers powerful and comprehensive solutions to Dentists, Optometrists, Chiropractors & other healthcare related professionals. For more information, please go to her website www.surgimedservices.com

And finally we had on Michael McHughes with Pinnacle Products & Services. Founded in 1995, Pinnacle is a printing distributor providing business forms, filings systems, promotional products and marketing services to Healthcare practices, Country Clubs, and general business clients across the country. They have been successful by tailoring their offerings to meet their clients unique needs. They supply a full range of computer forms products including checks, statements, envelopes, labels and notices as well as a complete line of filing products and services such as patient charts, labels, dividers + shelving, magnets, pens, calendars + mugs. For more information please go to Michael’s website www.pinnpro.com
