Stone Payton: [00:00:00] Welcome back to Business RadioX Pro Tips. Lee Kantor and Stone Payton here with you this morning. Lee, let’s talk a little bit about strategies, tactics, mindset when it comes to this task of building our reputations.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:15] Yeah. I think that some people think they can build their reputation or authority through marketing. And I just don’t think that that’s the best way to do that. I think the best way to build your reputation or authority is through the work that you’re doing. When you make an impact, you will become known and then you will have the influence that you desire. But when you’re just marketing yourself as somebody with reputation or authority, it just can’t work over time because you’re going to be found out. At some point you have to do the work. At some point you have to show up and do the work and improve yourself.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:52] So, you might be able to market yourself to get that reputation for a minute, they might think that. But as soon as they dig a layer too deep, you get exposed. So, I think it’s much better to build authority and a reputation around something real and your work will be real. So, publish your work, tell the people about it, do good work. Your clients will talk about you and you’ll have the influence that you desire.

Prior to starting Snapfinger, Mr. Garrett was responsible for engineering successful investor exits for direct marketing giant Response Marketing Group, which sold to Snyder Communications for $88M in 1998, and online banking pioneer Servantis, which sold to Checkfree for $200M in 1993.

Between 1980 and 1992, Mr. Garrett worked for Scientific Atlanta and Harris Corporation in an executive marketing capacity creating commercial applications for high-speed video and data satellite communications networks. Applications included the launch of CNN, ESPN, CBN, TWC and several other major entertainment and news networks; including serving on the board of “The Family Channel.”

Mr. Garrett earned his MBA from Georgia State University and his BAJ from the University of Georgia. Mr. Garrett lives with his wife of 36 years, Debbie, in North Atlanta. They have three grown children and three grandchildren. They both serve in leadership at North Point Community Church and they are both involved in and support a number of Christian ministries.

Lee, one of my mentors, a gentleman by the name of Steve Brown, just drilled into my head. When people are confused, they don’t take action. And I think it’s probably worth talking about for just a moment this discipline of whatever we do, don’t confuse the prospect.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:29] Yeah. And an area that this comes about a lot of times is giving your prospect too many choices, too many things to buy. And when you do that, like you said, you’re creating confusion, which creates inaction. So, if you can focus on the main result that you can reliably deliver, sell that and build packages around that. And you might kind of customize it to whatever the exact desire that your clients have. But you don’t want to confuse them with too many options and too many possibilities.

Lee Kantor: [00:01:03] So, you should have one main thing that you’re reliably delivering and then just kind of build ancillary things around that to just tweak it, to make it just custom fit for your client so it fits hand in glove. So, yeah, I agree 100 percent, don’t confuse your prospect. Clarity is so important. The simpler that thing is, the easier it is for them to get their mind around it and buy it.

Gabrielle Flowers Rader is the girlfriend you probably haven’t met!
