BRX Pro Tip: Appreciate Yourself

Stone Payton: [00:00:00] And we are back with BRX Pro Tips. Lee Kantor and Stone Payton here with you. Lee, one of the keys, I think, to remaining sane and, probably, to continue the effectiveness is to simply appreciate yourself.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:16] Yeah. I think as an entrepreneur, business leader, it’s hard, and you got to take a moment to kind of just own that, and appreciate yourself, and appreciate that it is a hard thing you’re trying to do here. Every business leader and entrepreneur is a little crazy, a little stubborn, relentlessly optimistic and hopeful. So, you got to take that moment periodically and appreciate that, “Hey, I’m taking a risk most other people wouldn’t. I’m trying to do something that’s difficult, and it has a high probability of not working out exactly as I pictured in my head, but I’m going boldly forward. I’m going to fight the good fight.”

Lee Kantor: [00:00:58] So, in order to do that every day, you got to give yourself some grace and some slack. And you got to find the other people who believe what you do. And that way, you can go forward together. So, you got to find your people, you got to find your tribe, you got to serve the heck out of them, and just try to get a little better every day, and you’re going to get there. But just take a moment and just appreciate that this is hard work, and you’re not going to be perfect, you’re going to make mistakes, you’re going to go down rabbit holes that don’t work out, but just keep kind of plugging away, keep grinding every day, and good things will happen.

BRX Pro Tip: You Can’t Escape Uncertainty

Stone Payton: [00:00:00] Welcome back to BRX Pro Tips. Lee Kantor and Stone Payton here with you. Lee, a lot of truths we’ve learned through the years of being in business, one of which is I don’t care how hard you try, you just simply cannot escape uncertainty.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:16] Right. In business, were always operating without all the information we need in order to make a permanent decision. That’s just the way it is. We like to think that today, because there’s a crisis, that this is new and unusual, but there’s a crisis every day. There’s always something going on. There’s always a million variables at play every single day. So, we like to try to take control and we like to pretend that we have some control. So, what we do, we do assessments, we do tests, we do pilots. So, that way, we’re checking to see what’s what. And sure, those activities give us some information, but it’s not perfect information.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:54] So, no matter what you know or how much you think you know, a better strategy is always take some action, learn something, tweak that until you eventually get to the result you were looking for. You cannot kind of go back in time. Tomorrow is a new day and things are going to change. They always change. That doesn’t change the fact that change is everywhere every day. So, of course, there’s uncertainty. There’s uncertainty every day. So, you just got to deal with it by taking action, learning, and moving forward and getting a little better every day.
