Stephanie Schull and Wendy Breakstone visit the Valley Business RadioX studio in Phoenix, Arizona

Stephanie Schull, Kegelbell

Stephanie Schull with Kegelbell in the studio at Valley Business RadioX in Phoenix, ArizonaStephanie Schull is CEO of Matter|Mission and inventor of Kegelbell, the world’s first weight training system of its kind to strengthen the hard-to-reach pelvic floor muscles that are so essential to vibrant women’s health. She designed Kegelbell to help busy modern women do a super kegel in less time with incredible results. Unlike kegels alone, plastic balls or complicated inserts, Kegelbell allows women to easily and naturally strengthen the pelvic floor muscle for better bladder control and enhanced sexual function in a five-minute session just three times a week.

Dr. Schull, an academic researcher-turned-inventor-and-entrepreneur, created Kegelbell in response to a loved one’s debilitating health problems that had started with surgical approaches to pelvic floor issues. Kegelbell gives women the easiest way to do their kegels, so pelvic floor problems will no longer stop them from living fully. Kegelbell solves the problem of kegels gone bad (or not done at all) with a patent-pending weight training system that allows women to do perfect, muscle-strengthening, kegel exercise in less time, with no fuss, quickly building these important yet hardest-to-reach muscles.

Stephanie believes in the need for Kegelbell, the first product from her company Matter|Mission, to de-stigmatize women’s health and give women remedies to the problems that have interrupted their happiness for years. Matter|Mission will achieve this through thoughtfully and creatively developing solutions that challenge the status quo, bring social issues to the forefront, and give women bold new options.

BRX Pro Tip: Worst Case Scenario BRX vs. Ad Buy Transcript

Stone Payton: [00:00:00] And we are back with Business RadioX Studio Partner Pro Tips. Lee Kanter, Stone Payton here with you. Lee, we often experience, and we certainly hope that when we do this with our clients, it’s going to work out exactly the way that we planned and we’re going to deliver tremendous ROI. But let’s look at the other side of the coin for a moment. What really is the worst case scenario if a client works with us, and maybe put it in context, versus maybe what’s the worst case scenario, if instead of that they do, I don’t know, a traditional media ad buy.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:36] This goes to the heart of what we do here and this is why we differentiate ourselves from traditional interruption advertising. An ad buy, there’s an old saying, I have a degree in advertising and this is what I learned, whatever, 30 plus years ago, 50 percent of your advertising dollars is wasted, you just don’t know where, what, 50 percent that is. So a lot of advertising is throwing stuff against a wall and hoping that you get a response or a response that is valuable to you. The worst case scenario in ad buy is that you didn’t create any leads, you didn’t get any attention, and now that money is just kind of in a pile and lit on fire. Our worst case scenario is they have content that’s created, literal content that’s repurposable. They have interviews with people that are important to them. They have actual relationships with human beings that they decided were important to them. So, even if they didn’t get any clients today or during the course of their sponsorship with us, they have relationships now that they didn’t have before. They have deeper relationships with people that they’ve known before, but now they know even better and they have a boatload of content they can repurpose and use for months and months. So our worst case scenario, they’re gonna get something in their hands, whether they’ve got a client or not, they’re going to end the day with stuff. The worst case scenario of an ad buy is you have nothing. You literally have nothing, except the hope that somebody bumped into your message during the time that it was around. It’s perishable. Our stuff lives forever.

Stone Payton:
Welcome back to Business RadioX Pro Tips. Stone Payton and Lee Kantor here with you. Let’s talk a little bit today, Lee, about what we do, and what can and so often does happen in this room when the show ends. My favorite characterization for that point in the whole experience is the post-show glow. And for my money, it’s the whole reason we’re here, right?

Lee Kantor:
Right. This is an important component. You don’t want to rush this. That’s why we allocate an hour and a half for a show, that even though the show may last 30, 45, or even 60 minutes, we allocate an extra half an hour because we do not want to rush what happens after the show. We don’t want the guests ever to feel like they’ve got to get out of here. And we want to do everything in our power to kind of nurture those conversation, and encourage the chatter that happens after the show has ended. So, this is kind of your foray, and you do a great job of orchestrating this in the room here. But when we wrap it, when the episode ends, and we say, “We’ll see you next time on Atlanta Business Radio,” then, I look to you, and then you do your thing.

Stone Payton:
Yeah, that’s my cue to get started. You talked about follow-up questions in an earlier Pro Tip. To me, that’s the time to ask some follow-up questions and comment. “You know, Joe, when you mentioned early in your segment blah, blah, blah, that really struck a chord with me.” And it’s just the same thing you would do in another environment, like a cocktail party or another business meeting, to keep the conversation going. To me, that is so important to extend that experience. They want you to extend the experience. They don’t want to go anywhere. And you can learn so much and cultivate such a deep, rich relationship if you just take a breath, take the time, and invest that time and energy with the people in the room, and stay in the moment.

Lee Kantor:
Right. And help kind of facilitate conversation between the guests if there is a thing that one of the guests go, “Hey, there might be ways for you to work together,” or “You guys should definitely get to know each other.” Something you have to watch as a studio partner, if you have kind of a producer, if you’ve hired a younger producer especially, they tend to just go through a checklist, and want to rush this thing, and want to get them out the door because they want to be done, and they want to make sure they’ve done everything properly.

Lee Kantor:
It’s important to train them to kind of let — to breathe, like Stone said, and let the room kind of just talk, and let the show do what it does is kind of facilitate these conversations. And they work on their own if you just let the guest do what they want to do is chat and talk to each other. You don’t want to rush that moment. And then, when you feel it dying down, that’s when — when you see people looking at their watch or packing up, that’s when you want to say, “Okay. Now, it’s time to take pictures,” and then kind of try to kind of revitalize that a little bit.

Stone Payton:
Welcome back to Business RadioX Pro Tips. Stone Payton and Lee Kantor here with you. Lee, let’s talk a little bit about bringing back previous guests – pros, cons, timing, sequence, that kind of thing.

Lee Kantor:
One of the great benefits of our platform is that we can rekindle dormant relationships by bringing back previous guests. Now, typically, if they’ve come in the studio, we like to wait three to six months for bringing somebody back that’s been in here before. But if there is a sales opportunity, or something has come up, or something newsworthy has happened, we have brought them back sooner than that, Stone. And I think it’s good mojo to do that. And some of the ways that we have them come back to kind of demonstrate what it would look like if they did sponsor a show is we invite them back in and ask them to bring in existing clients.

Stone Payton:
And I’ve actually done that in the original episode. Maybe we discovered them in a house show. And you and I, during the course of that show, we identify them as a viable prospect, and we’ll just say right there on air, “I think it might be marvelous to have you come back, Joe, maybe with a delighted client, one of your most trusted market partners, and really explore that relationship, and how you guys are collaborating together to serve your ecosystem. What do you think? Would make a good segment?” And I don’t think they’ve ever said no.

Lee Kantor:
Exactly. And it’s a very elegant way to deepen a relationship and demonstrate the value that’s sponsoring a show.

Above And Beyond

Stone Payton:
And we are back with Business RadioX Pro Tips. Lee Kantor and Stone Payton here with you. Lee, we put so much energy, we’ve invested so much time and resource into what to do in the room to create that ideal scenario, that dynamic that allows for relationship building. What can we do? What should we do as studio partners to go above and beyond what happens in the room to serve our clients?

Lee Kantor:
We use the phrase “surprise and delight” quite a bit in here, And we’re always looking for opportunities to surprise and delight our clients. Some of the ways and some of the easy ways for us to do that is connecting our clients with other guests. You can’t do that enough. That has to be kind of something that’s top of mind, that you’re always looking for the appropriate opportunity to make a connection for your client with that previous guest, somebody that you met networking, somebody that’s going to help your client either get more clients or introduce them to more clients. So, you can’t do that enough. That should be part of your day-to-day routine when it comes to dealing with your business here.

Lee Kantor:
Another thing that we like to do to surprise and delight our clients is swag. I mean, we’ve given them mugs, t-shirts, a lot of Business RadioX swag, right. We’re always looking for that. If they have a kid, we’re giving him a onesie with a Business RadioX logo on it. We’re doing something to do it in that regard. Another thing we do is, a lot of the times, we interview restaurant owners and people in retail, and we’re giving them gift cards or some of the stuff that we get here given to us.

Stone Payton:
And I’ll tell you something else that I feel like is relatively easy for us to do wholly consistent with our mission, and boy, is it just received like platinum. If you’ve got an executive in here or a well-established entrepreneur, and you’ve already provided this experience for them, you learn through the course of that experience that they have a cause, a nonprofit, something that’s really important to them. If you can provide them with a path to let their cause get some exposure on our platform, it means the world to them. It’s good for us, it’s good for them, everybody wins.

Lee Kantor:
And if they have a friend that is a business person, a real micro business, and we can help them, get them on. How many times have we had the kids of one of our clients or guests-

Stone Payton:
Starting their own small business.

Lee Kantor:
… starting their own small business, and we gave them a chance to be profiled on Business RadioX. And another thing is we get our a lot of our guests, our authors, and we get a ton of books. We’re constantly giving away those books to other guests that we think are appropriate. So, surprise and delight, you can’t do it enough.
