Brian McGowan/Invest Atlanta

Brian McGowan is the President/CEO at Invest Atlanta.  Brian was appointed by President Barack Obama as U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce. In this capacity he was the Chief Operating Officer of the U.S. Economic Development Administration. Brian was detailed to the White House as a Economic Advisor to lead the Economic Solutions Group within the National Incident Command in response to the BP oil spill. He was also elected as a US Delegate to the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris.

Before joining the Obama Administration he was appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to serve as California’s Deputy Secretary for Economic Development and Commerce.  Prior to this, Brian was appointed as the Economic Development Agency Administrator for the County of San Bernardino and worked for the City of Ontario and the City of Palm Springs. He was also a consultant for the US Agency for International Development where he developed economic growth programs for cities in Bulgaria and Serbia.

Brian received a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of California, Riverside and a Master’s degree in Politics, Economics and Business from the Claremont Graduate University. He is also the Michael and Mary Johnston Fellow at the Claremont Graduate University where he is completing a PhD in American Politics and Policy.

Councilman H. Lamar Willis/City of Atlanta

H. Lamar Willis was elected in 2001 to serve as the Post 3 At-Large Councilmember for the City of Atlanta. He was then and continues to be the youngest member of the legislative body of the City of Atlanta government. Lamar is currently serving his second term on council, having been re-elected without opposition in 2005. He is currently serving on the on the Transportation, Public Safety/Legal Administration and Community Development/Human Resources Committees.

During his time on Council, Lamar has served as President of Pro Tempore, Chair of the Council’s Transportation Committee for two consecutive years and as Chair of the Pubic Safety & Legal Administration Committee. In his role as Chairman, the Transportation Committee provided oversight over issues dealing with Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and its $4.5 billion dollar expansion program, City Transportation Initiatives, as well as issues pertaining to MARTA. As Chair of the Public Safety, Lamar championed efforts to assist the Police, Fire and Corrections Departments in securing legislation that would both strengthen their departments and ensure they had the tools needed to further improve public safety efforts in the City of Atlanta.

Lamar a life long resident of Atlanta. He graduated from Northside (North Atlanta) High School and went on to attend Morehouse College. He also received a Master of Science degree in Management and Policy Analysis from Carnegie Mellon University and a Juris Doctorate from Boston College Law School.

In addition to his duties as a council member, Lamar practices law in Atlanta (licensed in Georgia and Florida). He is the Managing Partner of Willis Law Group, LLC. Lamar and his wife of 13 years, Dr. Kamili Willis, are the proud parents of a nine year old daughter, Kayla and a four year old son, Henry. His family has been active members of Cascade United Methodist Church for over thirty years.

Brad Baldwin/Burr & Forman

Brad Baldwin practices in Burr & Forman’s Creditors’ Rights and Bankruptcy practice group and represents both debtors and creditors in bankruptcy and financial restructuring. Brad’s debtor representations include serving as lead restructuring counsel for several large manufacturing companies, including a $100 million textile company and a $100 million rope manufacturer. He also regularly represents various creditors in bankruptcy, including financial institutions, landlords, equipment lessors, suppliers, and municipal governments. Brad has personally conducted numerous bankruptcy auctions involving the sale of large companies, and he is adeptly skilled in representing buyers seeking to acquire assets out of bankruptcy.

In addition to bankruptcy, Brad’s practice includes commercial litigation with an emphasis on creditor’s rights, such as collections, foreclosures, receiverships, garnishments and repossessions.

Brad is a member of the Georgia State Bar, the Supreme Court of Georgia, the Georgia Court of Appeals, the U.S. 11th and 4th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Middle Districts of Georgia. He is a member of the Atlanta Bar Association and is a former Chairman for the Bankruptcy Section of the Atlanta Bar Association. Brad is also a member of the Turnaround Management Association and the Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Advisors.

EvoShield is one of the fasted growing sports brands in the country, doubling sales every 9 months. Following graduation from the University of Georgia with a Business Degree in Economics, Bob attended the prestigious Harvard Business School earning his MBA. After Harvard, he returned to Georgia as Director of Development with Portman Properties in Atlanta and San Francisco. Bob went on to a career with Probursa Investment Bank in New York and Mexico City as the President and CEO of their International Broker-Dealer. He eventually left Probursa to create and build several global high-technology Telecommunications companies with a client base spanning Asia, Latin America, and the US. Joe Harper/Harper, Inc.

Joe Harper is a sales and marketing professional working in the Atlanta area. Over the past eight years, Joe has led several companies’ efforts to conceptualize, build and implement complete sales and marketing programs. His latest venture, Harper Inc., is the evolution of a traditional business founded two decades ago by his father Steve Harper. Before joining Harper Inc., Joe served as the Director of Marketing for Milner/Comsquared, a technology company based in Norcross, GA, where he implemented both CRM and marketing automation for the entire sales organization. With a passion for business process automation, he enjoys tackling difficult problems with a mix of business knowledge and the right tools for the job. Joe is also an avid photographer, world traveler and adventurer and added “Dad” to his list earlier this month.

Chris Goodwin is the Director of Sales at Qsource Networks and has been serving businesses with their technology support needs for about 5 years, with a focus on the SMB space. In addition to maintaining current technical certifications, Chris applies his experience from being a business owner in understanding his clients’ technology and budgetary needs.

Gary Whitney/InterContinental Hotels Groups

Gary Whitney is Vice President of Learning & Delivery for InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG). Gary has been with IHG since 1998 in various facilitation, design, and learning leadership roles. Gary holds an MS degree from Purdue University and a BS degree from Southwest State University.

IHG is an international hotel company whose goal is to create Great Hotels Guests Love. IHG consists of 9 hotel brands, over 153 million guests annually, more than 660,000 rooms in over 4,500 hotels in nearly 100 countries around the world. Hotel brands include Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza, Indigo, Staybridge Suites, Candlewood Suites, Even Hotels, Hualuxe, and InterContinental.

Gwen McPherson/Northside Hospital

Gwen McPherson is the Coordinator for the Learning and Organizational Development department for Northside Hospital located in Atlanta, Georgia. She has over 17 years of experience in the fields of Learning and Human Resource Management in the non-profit and retail industries.

Gwen is a certified Instructor for Franklin Covey and a certified Instructor for Employment Learning Innovation. In addition to her certifications she also serves as an Adjunct Professor for Central Georgia Technical College in the school of Business Technology/Business Management.

Gwen has her B.A. from the University of South Carolina and her Masters of Arts in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix. Gwen lives outside the Atlanta, Georgia area with her husband Clifton and their children.

The Association of Telecom Professionals, ATP, is a non-profit industry association that provides a thriving environment for professional development, making business connections, thought leadership exchange, and supports the promotion and recognition of Georgia’s leadership, innovation, and excellence in the communications industry.

ATP produces an annual event, the ATP Awards Gala, to celebrate and honor Georgia executives for outstanding achievements in the development and deployment of communications technology and related solutions which further enhance and drive the connected world in which we live.

The 2012 ATP Awards Gala will be held at the Cobb Galleria on November 13, with both the VIP and general reception starting at 5:00 pm, followed by a seated dinner and Awards program.

Gary Humphrey/Prosys Information Systems

Gary Humphrey is a Director for the Association of Telecommunications Professionals, where communications and technology professionals connect. Gary is also the Chair for the 2012 ATP Awards Gala. Gary’s daytime role is in sales with Prosys Information Systems in Norcross, GA. Before that, Gary held sales roles with Centurylink and Sprint. Gary graduated from Dunwoody High School and earned a BA in Economics from the University of Georgia. Gary is a resident of Johns Creek and has two children, Drew and Ginny. Drew is a Senior at Georgia Southern University and Ginny is a Freshman at the University of Alabama.

Val Rahmani/Damballa and 2011 ATP of the Year Award Winner

Val Rahmani is the CEO of Damballa, the next generation of internet security. Prior to Damballa, Val served as General Manager of IBM’s Internet Security Systems (ISS) division after leading IBM’s $1.3 billion acquisition of the company. Before that, Val held several general management roles within IBM, including global multi-billion dollar hardware, software and services businesses. Val was born in the United Kingdom and first came to the United States as Executive Assistant to Lou Gerstner, soon after Gerstner became Chairman and CEO of IBM. She holds an MA and a Doctorate in Chemistry from Oxford University in England, and is a competitive aerobatic pilot.

Dara Albright/NowStreet

Dara Albright is the Founder of NowStreet Media, a leader in financial markets’ reform. Dara is a thought provoker and frequent speaker on topics relating to the private markets and crowdfunding. She is the author of the NowStreet Journal, a primary provider of analysis and insight into the private company marketplace as well as the legislation and innovation currently fueling it. Prior to founding NowStreet, Dara has held a distinguished 20 year career in investment banking, investor relations and institutional sales. She has worked closely with a number of institutional and accredited investors providing investment and trading strategies as well as restricted transaction services. Dara has helped raise financing for companies across the globe in a variety of industries at various phases and rollouts.  She is a graduate of the George Washington University and holds securities industry Series 7, 24, and 63 licenses.

Fred Rich/Cooper-Global Chauffeured Transportation

Fred Rich is the President of Cooper-Global Chauffeured Transportation.  Cooper-Global has been in existence since 2005 and in a very short amount of time has been ranked by the Atlanta Business Chronicle as the number one limousine company in Atlanta.  Fred is a native of Atlanta and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1975.  In his “first life” Fred owned an advertising agency in Atlanta called Rich/Gardner Advertising which he sold to monster.com in 2001.  He is an avid sports fan and has been a high school football referee for 14 years.  He has been married for 34 years to Dianne and has two daughters, Jessica and Andrea and grandson Micah.

Bob Sleppy/Nuçi’s Space

Bob Sleppy is a 2010 graduate of the Master of Business Administration Program at the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business. In addition to MBA coursework, Bob completed the requirements for a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from the Institute for Nonprofit Organizations. The certificate included a directed study with a focus on Social Entrepreneurship and Social Enterprise. Prior to graduate studies, he completed a B.S. in Psychology (with a concentration in Organizational & Industrial Psychology) from the University of Georgia.

Bob has been the Executive Director of Nuçi’s Space in Athens, GA since 1999. Nuçi’s Space is a non-profit health and music resource center in Athens, GA. The aim of the organization is to prevent suicide by providing obstacle free treatment for musicians suffering from depression and other such disorders as well as to assist in the emotional, physical and professional well-being of musicians. The organization employs a diverse range of funding, including earned income, to meet financial goals. Nuçi’s Space is in the beginning stages of expanding the organization’s mission to include the Atlanta-area creative community.

In addition to his work with Nuçi’s Space, Bob is a part-time lecturer at the University of Georgia, teaching “Social Entrepreneurship” to graduate students in the Masters of Nonprofit Management Program. He is also a co- owner of a small manufacturing company, Pretty Road Cases LLC, which produces high-quality road cases for a variety of applications including sports equipment, medical equipment and professional music gear.

Bob Sleppy resides in Athens, GA with his wife Rachel and daughter Finley.

Andrea Borden/NAWBO

Andrea Borden is the President of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), as well as Partner with Borden Schmidt Consulting.  Andrea has twenty years of sales management and business development experience with technology, media and consulting companies. Her diverse experience makes her uniquely qualified to provide sales consulting and sales coaching services.  Andrea has a proven track record of increasing sales rapidly within a wide range of companies such as Robert Half International, Spherion Staffing, Compaq Computer/HP and Ziff-Davis Media.

Founded in 1975, the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) is the voice of America’s 10.6 million women-owned businesses and is the only dues-based national organization representing the interests of all women entrepreneurs across all industries.

Andrea holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from University of West Florida. She is an active member of Buckhead Church and enjoys mentoring at-risk children in Atlanta.
