I was born in Vancouver British Columbia– and my parents moved to the US when I was an infant. I have grown up in Tucson– going to elementary school at Saints Peter & Paul- and then Salpointe Catholic HS- where I graduated in 1990. After HS graduation, I went on to the University of Arizona where I received my bachelor’s degree in General Business- and met my husband Sean. After graduating from the U of A, Sean and I were fortunate enough to travel many places around the world with his job.

When we returned, I began my career at Enterprise Rent a Car. I worked for Enterprise Rent A Car for about 14 years. During this time Sean and I started a family. Because of that, I changed to a position where I just marketed Insurance agents. 10 ½ years ago I left Enterprise– and came to Star Glass. Here at Star, I do the same thing- working hand in hand with the Insurance Agents here in Tucson. I have built a relationship with these offices over the last 20+ years. I enjoy working with them and helping them serve their clients.

I have 2 sons- ages 19 and 17. My life is filled with football, as my older son Colin plays football for the University of Montana. My younger son Dylan plays for Salpointe Catholic. I spend many hours volunteering, whether it be at the school, or for the football team. I enjoy traveling and spending time with my husband, children, and 2 dogs.

About the business:

Star Glass Company is a leader in glass repair and replacement throughout Tucson and Phoenix- and has been serving Arizona since 1998. We specialize in a variety of services, including auto, home, and commercial glass.

We uphold the integrity of our services not only through our unparalleled customer service but also by going the extra mile to obtain an Auto Glass Replacement Safety Standard (AGRSS) certification. The AGRSS Certification is a process that ensures our technicians are educated in the process of safe windshield replacement.

My name is Steve Hoeffner, and I am the General Manager and (part-owner) of the Star Glass Company.

I was born and raised in the Tucson community since 1970.

I have been married to my wife Angie for 28 years and we have three kids Steven 27, Chris 25, and Andrea 17, including 2 beautiful grandchildren. I am Native American and a member of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe.

I attended private Catholic education from 1st to 12th grade. I graduated from Salpointe Catholic High school in 1988.
After graduation, I decided to work in the Glass Industry full time and pursue a career after working part-time since 1986. I became a manager a few years later with a nationwide company.

I continued to manage several other large retail companies such as Speedy Glass and Harmon Glass up until 2007. The opportunity to become a partner with Star glass arose and I became part owner ever since. We have had an amazing run going on for 14 years and continue to grow and prosper every year. In 2017 we purchased National Glass in Tucson (locally owned) and increased our Commercial and Residential sales and also expanded our services into Phoenix. Our goal has always been “Service that Shines” and this culture is what separates us from our competition.

We have an incredible staff and technicians with many of them over 30-year experience which is monumental in providing the best customer service in town.

Dr. Robert A. Gabbay, MD – Chief Scientific and Medical Officer, American Diabetes Association

About Mandy Tilton:

Mandy Tilton, RN, joined DaVita as a patient care technician in 2001 and now serves as its Chief Nursing Officer.

Tilton holds a doctorate in nursing from Bradley University and an MBA from Lewis University. She also sits on the board of directors of the Nurses & Technician Council for the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois.

More About Dr. Robert Gabbay:

Robert A. Gabbay, MD, Ph.D., FACP, is the Chief Scientific and Medical Officer for the American Diabetes Association (ADA), the global authority on diabetes.

Dr. Gabbay leads the ADA’s efforts to drive discovery within the world of diabetes research, care, and prevention.

Previously, Dr. Gabbay served as the Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President at Joslin Diabetes Center, and Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School.

 Did you know?

Diabetes and hypertension impact kidney health.

Diabetes can damage the kidneys and cause them to fail.
Failing kidneys lose their ability to filter out waste products, resulting in kidney disease. 1 in 3 people with diabetes also has kidney disease.

Education is key to prevention when it comes to type 2 diabetes and kidney disease.

Before people develop type 2 diabetes, they almost always have “prediabetes”—blood sugar levels that are higher than normal but not yet high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. If you have prediabetes, you should be checked for type 2 diabetes every one to two years.

Early detection of CKD is possible through a screening that shows the level of kidney function. For people who find out they have declining kidney function, it’s important to connect with a kidney doctor who can help slow down or even stop the progression of CKD before kidney failure.

There are ways people can manage their diabetes—through diet, exercise, medical support, and emotional help. Similar healthy habits also help people manage their kidney health.

Type 1 diabetes occurs at every age and in people of every race, shape, and size when the body does not produce insulin. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes—and it means that your body doesn’t use insulin properly.

Kidney failure occurs when kidneys are no longer able to clean toxins and waste products from the blood and perform their functions to full capacity. This can happen suddenly or overtime.

Dorothy Bishop trained at the Yale School of Music in Opera.  She immediately moved to NYC and later joined the First Broadway National Tour of Terrence McNally’s Tony award-winning play “Master Class” starring Faye Dunaway.

“Bishop has New York audiences in stitches”

— New York Post

“Novel and hysterical!  She can really sing and she NAILS it!” –Huffington Post

Blessed with a voice capable of opera, Broadway, and pop, she creates funny but appreciative portraits of the women we love.   – Michael Musto

In the smash Off-Broadway hit Spamilton, Dorothy Bishop ruthlessly impersonates divas from Liza Minnelli to Barbra Streisand, with Bernadette Peters and Patti LuPone along the way.

But Spamilton hardly scratches the surface of Dorothy’s talent for mimicry. In her fast-paced one-woman show “The Dozen Divas,” she does Liza and Barbra… and Stevie and Adele and Cher… and, well, too many others to mention!

Dorothy is primed to dazzle you on Monday, June 26th at 7 pm at the Metropolitan Room as she launches into her third year of “The Dozen Divas,” featuring her classic impersonations as well as a brand-new diva or two.

“The Dozen Divas” has already been nominated for two Broadway World Awards and two Mac Awards for a best musical comedy show.  In between stints with Spamilton, Dorothy squeezed in a triumphant Mexican tour of “Divas” during which she headlined at the beautiful Red Room in Puerto Vallarta.

She was spotted in “The Dozen Divas” by the music director of Spamilton, Broadway conductor Fred Barton.

He was bowled over: “Dorothy’s innate sunny sense of humor and goodheartedness transcends all – but her true secret weapon lies in the sky-high quality and range of her own native, superlative singing.”

Host:

Kim Adair

Kim was a senior advertising executive for a popular Colorado magazine, creating several popular community leader print campaigns, along with her own cancer print campaigns.

“What made me successful in each of my ventures, was my ability to market my own businesses. I like to have fun. I think in the margins. I am always trying to think how I can turn an experience into something new and creative that will make people think”.

Kim likes to camp and canoe. Her favorite string instrument is the cello and aspires to learn to play someday. She would like to travel the world.

Raised in Pittsburgh, PA.  Bachelor’s and Master’s in Mechanical Engineering from M.I.T.  MBA from University of Chicago Booth School of Business.  Worked in manufacturing at General Electric, at a startup automotive supplier, as an EVP for diamond tooling manufacturer, and ran Consumer Products Division at Rain Bird in Tucson.  Moved to Tucson for Rain Bird in 2005. Left Rain Bird and started Starfish Care Homes with wife, Kris, a Nurse Practitioner in 2012. Live in Tucson Country Club since we moved here in 2005.  Three kids, Bernie 23, a Biomedical Engineer at Brainlab in San Diego, Max 21, in Environmental Engineering and Political Science at ASU, and Sophie, 17, at CFHS.

About your business:

Kris and Ben started Starfish Care Homes in 2012.  After looking at possible acquisitions, we decided we could do better by starting from scratch ourselves.  We bought a beautiful home, renovated it for Assisted Living, and opened it for business in September of 2012.  Over the years, we’ve bought, renovated, and opened more homes.  Recently, we added a community of 8 homes in Northwest Tucson. We’ve grown Starfish from one home with no employees to 14 homes across 6 locations, employing over 70 people and caring for over 100 residents.

At Starfish, we work to do a few things very well.  Most importantly, we hire and keep nice, professional Managers and Caregivers.  Good people want to work in an organization that upholds high standards, particularly when caring for people.  We provide our staff with tools, resources, and a positive environment to do their jobs well. Their jobs are difficult, so all the support we provide really matters.  Additionally, we provide a clean, attractive home for residents to live and staff to work.  We make home-cooked food with copious fresh fruit, vegetables and deserts.  The last important input is communication.  We need to be on the same page with families and resident representatives about subtle changes in condition, so together we make decisions and take actions to keep our residents in the best possible condition.

About the Business

Serenity Senior Services is a locally owned company that assists families and their aging loved ones find placement throughout Southern Arizona. Danny Klein and Tom Pothoff started Serenity Senior Services 5 years ago and have assisted over 800 families with their long-term care needs. We have a selective vetting criterion for the senior living communities and adult care homes in which we place. Since we started our business, we have vetted over 300 senior living options in Southern Arizona and we work with only 45-50 places. Our motto is that we are “Doctor Recommended, Family-Approved” as we partner with over 180 local primary care/geriatric physicians to help their patients find the right senior living option. Serenity Senior Services offers placement options for Independent Living, Assisted Living, or Memory Care.

Our placement services are completely free to you, our clients, as we get paid by the selected senior living community. If our clients choose a place that we recommend, we get a referral fee from the selected community. However, we do need to be the first to introduce a client to the community in order for us to get compensated. In addition to being local placement experts, we can also recommend agencies that provide in-home caregiving. We realize that some families are not ready to place their loved ones into Assisted Living or Memory Care and we have vetted private duty caregiving agencies throughout Southern Arizona. Our goal is to provide families with as much information as possible so that they can make an informed decision.

Our placement model is unique in that we do a full initial intake and, if necessary, get permission (HIPPA clearance) from families to validate care needs with PCPs and physician specialists. Furthermore, we have a documented 7-page vetting checklist where we consistently inspect the communities in which we place. This “Community Review Checklist” was created and approved with the help of over 30 local physicians who refer to us. Lastly, we constantly check the most recent Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) surveys (inspections) on all the communities where we do placements. We are extremely transparent with our clients and even post a link to the ADHS survey website on our own Serenity Senior Services website: www.serenityss.com Cindy L. Sheller

We help local business leaders get the word out about the important work they’re doing to serve their market, their community, and their profession.

We support and celebrate business by sharing positive business stories that traditional media ignores. Some media leans left. Some media leans right. We lean business.
