Everything rises and falls with leadership — life, business, and municipal government. We’re beyond honored to have Gainesville Mayor Sam Couvillon on this North GA Business Radio X show!
If you’re unfamiliar with our Mayor’s role in our community, you want to listen in…
Sam and host Phil Bonelli talk about the different duties of the City Council and Mayor and the Strong-Mayor and Weak-Mayor system of city government.
Gainesville has a “Weak Mayor” system, which acts like a Board of Directors, while a “Strong Mayor” system has an elected mayor with direct administrative authority over the government and its departments.
Sam and Phil also talk about some exciting things coming to Downtown Gainesville. We’re RIPE with future growth opportunities!
If you’re a developer considering a project in Downtown Gainesville, the Downtown Gainesville revitalization TAD (Tax Allocation District) is closing at the end of this year! You’ve got about five months to get your projects in for consideration!
In addition to his mayoral duties, Sam is a working professional. He is a Norton Agency partner and the President of the Employee Benefits Division in Gainesville.
Sam graduated from the University of Georgia in 1994 with a communications degree. He is extremely community minded and serves on numerous boards, and in his current capacity as the Mayor of Gainesville. Sam and his wife Margie have two children, Sarah Grace and Molly.
