Culinary Fight Club brings the passion of a high-energy kitchen and the thrill of a timed competition for you to enjoy. No two events are the same, with new teams and themes every month, we promise you’ll come back for seconds.

Culinary Fight Club is a national organization that hosts live cooking competitions. At each event, attendees watch as contestants from home cooks to executive chefs race for their pantry in 45 seconds. Contestants get to choose from 15 provided ingredients. From there, contestants have 60 minutes to create the most gourmet dish that represents their take on our monthly theme. The audience and judges vote and decide on a winning dish.

Aside from being an incredibly fun event, Culinary Fight Club events exclusively give back to the 501(c) (3) non profit organization Fight2Feed, an organization that partners top restaurants with food trucks to provide service and support to hungry men, women and children in our communities.

Chef Challenge is Feeding the Gulf Coast’s fundraiser that brings together some of our area’s most celebrated chefs and restaurants for an evening of superb food and drink while they compete to win best dish of the night in their respective category. Guests also will enjoy live entertainment by Roman Street and a vast silent auction, all in the name of ending hunger.

Chef Challenge is held to help advocate Hunger Action Month (September). Hunger Action Month is a nationwide awareness campaign set forth by our corporate affiliate, Feeding America, that educates the public about the issue of hunger and helps raise awareness about our hunger-relief efforts along the Central Gulf Coast.

Tickets can be purchased for $60 prior to the event, $75 at the door.

Guests must be 21 and over.

Cathy Pope has served as the President and CEO of Feeding the Gulf Coast since September of 2016. Formerly the executive director of Meals on Wheels of Central Georgia, Cathy has spent years combating hunger in communities. In her 25 years of work experience, Pope has worked at the Susan G. Komen Foundation, managed her own business, taught high school math, worked as an adjunct college instructor in microeconomics, and as a network engineer for Bell Atlantic. Pope has an undergraduate degree in mathematics, a Master’s in Business Administration and a Master’s in Political Science. Cathy has four children, two in college and two recent college graduates, all living in Georgia.

Mission

Working through member organizations and special programs, we provide nutritious food to meet the challenge of feeding people who are hungry as a result of personal crisis or disaster. We work to educate the public regarding domestic hunger, proper nutrition and related issues.

Feeding the Gulf Coast, formerly Bay Area Food Bank, serves a 24-county area spanning south Alabama, south Mississippi, and the panhandle of Florida. In 2016, the food bank distributed over 22 million pounds of food to nearly 400 church pantries, soup kitchens and other nonprofit organizations throughout its service area. The food bank also operates multiple nutrition programs, including Summer Food Service, Afterschool Snack, Backpack, Disaster Relief, Community Garden, Mobile Pantry, Produce Drop, Cooking Matters, and SNAP Outreach. Humbly Joe applied his education working around the world diversifying his culinary portfolio in such great places as the Ritz-Carlton and Le Bec Fin. Starting in 2008 Joe focused his energies in the downtown Pensacola area – a then small foodie scene. One of the earlier downtown revitalization pioneers, Joe was pivotal on the growth of the downtown area, and continues to further the downtown scene advocating for Gallery Night and chairing the up & coming Palafox Wine Walk. In 1996 the first Roly Poly Sandwich Shop opened for business in the Buckhead section of Atlanta, Georgia. Company founders Linda Wolf and Julie Reid had been rolling sandwiches in their shops in New Canaan, Connecticut (‘86) and in Key West, Florida (‘96) before settling on Atlanta to officially begin building their franchise system. New York Nick’s in Downtown Pensacola was recently named “The Best Sports Bar in Pensacola.” It’s no surprise, since the walls are literally inundated with 40 high-definition flat-screen TVs playing anything from water polo to hockey. They also have every sports package known to man, so if you’re not into football you can find something. Rhythmic gymnastics anyone?

But, ribbon dancing aside; during the Super Bowl I can imagine no better place in town to watch the game. Pensacola is located a mere three hours away from New Orleans and so, it seems, the locals have a soft spot for The Saints. My boyfriend, a native of Louisiana, was at first perplexed by Pensacola’s unabashed support of another state’s NFL team. But who are we going to cheer for? Jacksonville located on the other side of the state? Pass.

So New York Nick’s will undoubtedly be filled as the Saints (and pardon this pun) go marching into the Super Bowl (Ba Dum Ching!). And while there are plenty of franchises that cater to the sports crowd in Pensacola, nothing beats this one-of-a-kind place. Great bar specials all day long and an extensive menu keep this place busy, even during the off-season. They’re famous for their char-grilled wings but there burgers are amazing too. Try the “Best Damn Buffalo Chicken Sandwich Period” or the “Shaved Prime Rib Sandwich” if you want to switch it up a little. They even offer a children’s menu and all the usual bar fare favorites; cheesy fries, onion rings and nachos. Get here early on game day to stake out your table and be prepared to stay for the long haul. But I promise you, you won’t go hungry.”
