About Shannon Addison

Shannon Addison is a “work-at-home” mom, military spouse, and mother of two amazing girls. Her mother (who was a teacher for 25 years) inspired her to create a product line that would positively impact the lives of children.

The founder of our company is Mike Hodges. Mike is a Thinking Into Results (TIR) consultant, who is affiliated with the Proctor Gallagher Institute (PGI). The TIR program has helped him combine his experience in contract administration, employee training, sales, and business administration with his passion for personal growth and development.

Mike uses the same tools used by Bob Proctor, an industry leader in personal development. These techniques assist clients with improving their performance in all aspects of life. He customizes his program to fit each client’s unique needs, so they can achieve the results they desire. Individuals will also be able to answer several key questions, such as

Mike holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Frostburg State University and a Master’s degree in Management from Florida State University. He has spent most of his professional career in the insurance sector in both the government and private sector. Mike has worked as a federal government contract specialist and program analyst, an agent for a private health and life insurance agency, and an office manager for an independent medical practice.

PGI was formed by Bob Proctor, a legendary leader in the personal development industry for over 50 years. Bob Proctor started PGI with his former student, Sandy Gallagher. PGI’s mission is to share the secrets of personal and business growth and development that Bob has showcased during his remarkable career. It has been said that a community’s vitality can be measured in part by the voluntary contributions of it’s leaders. The vision of Leadership Pensacola is a community filled with leaders who are well informed, committed and have the desire to inspire positive change in the Pensacola area.

What is Community Action?Fifty years ago, under the leadership of President Lyndon B. Johnson, the U.S. Congress enacted the bill known as the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 in an effort that began under the watch of President John F. Kennedy before his assassination. Johnson took up and expanded these efforts to eradicate poverty, calling the move an unconditional war. In his State of the Union Address in 1964, Johnson declared,

“It will not be a short or easy struggle, no single weapon or strategy will suffice, but we shall not rest until that war is won.”

The variety of initiatives introduced as a result of the act included Head Start, Job Corps, Work-Study programs, Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA), and Neighborhood Youth Corps. One of the bill’s more radical components was the introduction of Community Action Agencies, as they prescribed direct involvement from individuals in low-income communities to address the needs of the poor. This action was a departure from how social reform programs were structured in the past.

Like its sister agencies across the state and nation, the Community Action Program Committee, Inc. (CAPC) in Pensacola, Florida, was born out of this concept. Although much has changed in the half century since Johnson’s declaration of the war on poverty, CAPC continues to serve the needs of individuals and families who are struggling and working to achieve self-sufficiency.

We will carry on CAPC’s legacy of service to the community by forging valuable connections to further our mission. Connections with other organizations in Northwest Florida are key to identifying individuals with unmet needs and to directing them to the best possible solutions. Strengthening connections within the agency is important as well. Working together, the CAPC staff can maximize each program’s effectiveness and efficiency in order to help those we serve.

CAPC has produced positive outcomes for many, but the fight must continue. And in the words of President Johnson, “we shall not rest.”

About Us

Experience, Technical Knowledge, Professionalism, & Safety

Over the last seven years our company, Coastal ICF, has completed over 80 ICF wall system projects and performed close to 200 concrete wall pours in the Pensacola area. These projects encompass a wide variety of building types, shapes and sizes, each having unique characteristics that represent the many different uses of ICF forms.

We have experience building basements, safe-rooms, and ICF’s built on a wide variety of foundation types which include slab on grade, monolithic, off-grade slabs or “stem-wall”, and elevated slabs on pilings.

We are able to use innovative engineering techniques to push beyond the limitations of wood frame, steel, and concrete block construction.

We began operations building custom ICF homes from the ground up or “turn-key”, but now we specialize in building ICF walls or the entire envelope or “shell” (foundation, ICF walls, and framing). This approach streamlines the construction process by using a single professional subcontractor to complete the three critical structural phases of construction and provides more effective coordination between owners, architects, engineers, builders, subcontractors, and construction officials thus reducing construction time and minimizing potential problems. He is also a member in good standing of the ICFA (Insulating Concrete Form Association) and the ACI (American Concrete Institute). Doug developed his philosophy for hard work, professionalism, and attention to detail while serving as a Naval Aviator with the United States Navy. Our CEO and Founding Bettie, Emily LaRusch has felt the entrepreneurial bug since she was a child. She got her start in elementary school when she directed the neighborhood kids in a talent show and charged parents admission to watch their kids perform. As an adult she worked for fortune 500 companies and loved sharing ideas and executing process improvements and product development as an intrapreneur.

While working on a IT project in the finance sector she spent most of her days on project calls but needed to arrange services of a carpet cleaner and landscaper for her home. On a rare break, she called multiple companies and no one answered. She called company after company until she was able to book services. One company called her back later and they said “Hey, I have a missed call from you. Do you want carpet cleaning?” Initially she was annoyed by the impersonal and unprofessional experience but after a few days a light bulb went off. This was the perfect opportunity to marry her passion for service, love of small businesses and knack for IT to become the voice of small businesses across the US and Canada! Previously, Jeff was with Monster.com where he was Salesperson of the Year in 2008. Jeff is a Pensacola native and graduated from Washington High School. He has an undergraduate degree from Baylor University and an MBA from Southern Methodist University. Jeff serves on the Board of Trustees of Episcopal Day School; the Board of Directors of the Greater Pensacola Chamber of Commerce; and is the proud dad to Jack, Frances and Mallie.

Hazel Wiggington is the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Partner, and one of the founders of H2 Performance Consulting Corporation, a management and technology consulting firm. Ms. Wiggington has over 12 years of experience providing consulting to Federal and DoD agencies. Ms. Wiggington specializes in providing project and program management, change management, strategic management and financial management consulting services. Prior to co-founding H2, she held management positions at KPMG Consulting and BearingPoint in their Public Services Division. During that time, she has managed several multi-million dollar projects that supported the Department of Navy.

Ms. Wiggington has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Shepherd College and is currently the Director of the provisional Emerald Coast Chapter Project Management Institute (PMI) Branch in Pensacola, FL and on the Board of Directors for the Gulf Coast Government Contractors Association based out of New Orleans, LA. She is also a member of Vistage CEO Group 2037 in the Pensacola Region.

Creative Learning Academy

Marilyn works diligently while managing events, handling social media accounts, coordinating all fundraising and development efforts such as campaigns and advertising and other public relations and marketing initiatives to expand the community’s knowledge of CLA’s mission and values. Marilyn received her Bachelors of Arts in Mass Communications & Journalism as well as a minor in Spanish at the University of Southern Mississippi. Her past experience includes working as a Promotions Producer at WEAR-TV.

Creative Learning Academy is the preeminent college-preparatory school for preschool through 8th grade students. CLA is accredited by the SACS-CASI, Florida Council of Independent Schools, and the Florida Kindergarten Council. Our mission is to nurture and strengthen each child’s foundation of academic excellence, creativity, independence and integrity in a culturally enriched community.

The school curriculum is advanced, comprehensive, and enriched with music, art, technology, library science, physical education, and Spanish. There are additional courses in Middle School, such as geometry, health, creative writing, research skills, and yearbook. Many after school activities are available.

CLA faculty are dedicated, caring, and well qualified. Each teacher instructs in his/her educational field of study. Our Pre-primary Program is led by Montessori certified teachers.

School Hours:

8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. for Preprimary
8:00 a.m. – 2:50 p.m. for Kindergarten through eighth grade
The CLA After School Program is available each day until 6:00 p.m. ($6.00 per hour fee)
Early morning care from 7:20 a.m. to 7:50 a.m. in the gym (complimentary supervision- NO FEE)

As a leading college-preparatory school in Pensacola, CLA strives to enroll a maximum of 16 students in each preprimary class, a maximum of 20 students in Lower School classes (kindergarten through fourth grade) and 22 in middle school (5th-8th grade) classes.

Need-based financial aid is available to students each year. It is our intent that no qualified student will be denied a CLA education simply based on financial considerations.
