Aviary Photo_130197635542692521July is Sandwich Generation Month.  The Sandwich Generation describes those people that are dealing both with aging parents and children still in the home.  While we have spent a good bit of time addressing the “meat” in the sandwich, we have not spent much time discussing the “bread”.  Joshua Rumohr is the Director of Excitement at Ivy Springs Assisted Living Community in in Buford, Georgia.  He is also a recent graduate of the University of North Georgia.  So, that means he’s on of the slices of bread on the sandwich.

Joshua’s degree is in Psychology, with a certificate in Gerontology.  His interest in seniors stems from his participation in the care for his grandfather, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s a number of years ago, and recently passed.  As a member of the younger generation, Joshua tells us that this generation can feel stress from the fact that their parents are spending so much time caring for the grandparents.  Adding to the stress is the fact that he was also asked to participate in the care – sometimes at the expense of his other activities.  Though he often spent Saturday nights caring from his grandparent, Joshua looks back on that time now as precious time with him.  Listen in as Joshua offers additional perspective on being the bread in the sandwich!  In his job at Ivy Springs, Joshua is also able to offer insight into the grandparents perspective

To contact Joshua directly, you can call Ivy Springs at 770-573-9096, email him at josh.rumohr@ivyspringsmanor.com, or stop by their community for a tour at 3177 Gravel Springs Rd.  near the Mall of Georgia in Buford.

Aviary Photo_130185724749909154Did you know that more than 70% of identity theft is “non-financial” identity theft?  For more than 20 years, Kristy Gillmann was in the healthcare software industry.  In 2009, she became acquainted with what was then known as Prepaid Legal (now LegalShield).  She had a few minor legal questions and issues, and thought it sounded like a reasonably priced way to have access to an attorney.  In the last 4 years, she has contacted Legal Shield 72 times for advice!  She was so impressed with the service, that when she found herself looking for another job, she sought out Legal Shield.  Listen in as Kristy describes how this affordable service can be invaluable to senior services providers, seniors and their families!

For more information about LegalShield, view a video here.  To contact Kristy directly, call her at (404) 281-2571, or email her at kgillmann@legalshield.com.

Linda Bailey was born and raised in Indianapolis.  She was the sixth of nine children.  She left Indianapolis to go to school in Los Angeles.  She ultimately returned to Indianapolis, where she began working at an assisted living community.  About the same time, she had the privilege of caring for her aging parents.  After their passing, Linda and her husband moved to Atlanta, where she continued her work with the elderly.

Early on, Linda met Jo Ellen Knowles.  Jo Ellen became interested in senior care after her mother lost a battle with colon cancer.  Jo Ellen attended Adelphi University, and went on to earn a graduate degree from Boston University.  Though she has worked in a variety of capacities, including news anchor for a CNN affiliate, her heart is in serving the elderly and their families.

About a year ago, Linda asked Jo Ellen to join her as she started Atlanta Healthcare Referral.  Atlanta Healthcare Referral’s mission is to search out the best of the best in home care and senior living communities to refer to their clients and families.  They pride themselves on doing the “feet on the ground” research that larger companies might not be committed to doing.  To find out more, please visit their website at www.atlantahealthcarereferral.com, or call them directly at 770-866-7729.
