American Homicide examines all types of homicide, and gives additional attention to the more prevalent types of murder and suspicious deaths in the United States. Authors Richard M. Hough and Kimberly D. McCorkle employ more than 30 years of academic and practitioner experience to help explain why and how people kill and how society reacts. This compressive text takes a balanced approach combining scholarly research and theory with compelling details about recent cases and coverage of current trends.

Laurie Murphy/Emerald Coast Keeper

Executive Director

Founded in 1999, Emerald Coastkeeper is one of 240 (and counting) member organizations of the Waterkeeper Alliance. We are a grassroots organization that monitors four main watersheds in the Florida Panhandle. Our mission is to investigate, educate and protect our right to swimmable. fishable and drinkable water. We believe that healthy waterways are directly connected to healthy communities and healthy people.

In our four watersheds, you will find many springs, creeks, rivers, bayou’s, bays and of course, the Gulf of Mexico.

Pollution can happen anywhere, not just from large industires. Some of the greatest concerns in our region stem from residential pollution.

Some of the more common culprits are septic system failure, erosion and sedimentation, nutrient loading from fertilizers, red tide, heavy metals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls, (PCBs) lead, mercury, animal wastes, industrial paint source discharge, oil spills, commercial vessel pollution, residential development, and household garbage.

Protecting our waterways and drinking water from contaminants is everyone’s responsibility. We can’t do it alone…we need your help!

Feel free to contact us if you want to volunteer or to report a problem. We look forward to creating a healthy community with you!

Pensacola Blue Wahoos

In December 2010, Quint and Rishy Studer announced their purchase of the Carolina Mudcats, the Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. The Double-A team will move from Zebulon, North Carolina to Pensacola beginning in 2012. The Pensacola franchise will remain in Minor League Baseball’s Southern League.

“I am extremely proud and excited for the actions that are being announced today,” said Quint Studer. “Bringing affiliated baseball to Pensacola will continue to add to the rich sports history that already exists in the area. Seeing the future stars of Major League baseball in a fun, family friendly atmosphere will bring a new level of enthusiasm for the citizens of Pensacola and Northwest Florida.”

The new home of the Reds Double-A affiliate will be located at Blue Wahoos Park, the premier waterfront mixed use development on the Gulf Coast. The team will play the 2011 season in North Carolina before relocating to the new state-of-the-art facility starting in April of 2012. The Class A-Advanced club moving to North Carolina in 2012 will retain the Carolina Mudcats name.

“The Southern League is one of the most respected leagues within baseball. With this move we are joining several upstanding franchises, including the Mobile BayBears who graciously allowed us to share their territory to make this all possible for the City of Pensacola. It is an honor to be associated with a league that boasts talented alumni like Chipper Jones, Joey Votto, Alex Rodriguez, Tim Hudson and Miguel Cabrera,” added Studer.

Mission

The vision of Northwest Florida Professional Baseball, LLC (aka the Pensacola Blue Wahoos) is to operate the most successful professional sports franchise in the United States. Local ownership and management are committed to achieving this by emphasizing the following five basic pillars:

Service

Financial

People

Growth

Quality

Values

We believe that our core values accurately communicate the things that drive us as an organization. As members of the Northwest Florida Professional Baseball, LLC organization, we are expected to live the values and embrace the spirit of our behavior standards.

Living the values is essential to create an environment that reinforces our dedication to our values/mission.

The importance of core values:

  • Core values are part of the ideology so deeply held that they will never be compromised
  • The core values of the company will withstand any change in leadership
  • Future employees are hired with similar values
  • These values guide all behaviors, guidelines, and standards
  • We continually ask ourselves if decisions or activities are in alignment with our core values

Our core values:

Teamwork:               Respectfully caring for each other and those we serve

Respect:                     Humility in our successes and grace in our challenges

Integrity:                    Honesty and integrity in all our interactions

Generosity:                Being thankful for and sharing our opportunities and blessings

Learning:                   Passionately pursuing making a difference in professional baseball by being a lifelong learner and teacher

About the Southern League

Walter Pierce / Levin Reinke Real Estate

Aside from buying and selling real estate, Walter enjoys many other activities. His wife and four children are his top priority and he spends a great deal of time with his family. He also takes time for sailing, tennis, water sports, and reading for enjoyment as well as education. He is an active member of First Church Pensacola and ICON, the Pensacola LEAD-ers, Pensacola North Rotary, Teaches Sunday school, serves on the NBCook SAC, and is a partner in education with a local school. He enjoyed spending time teaching JA, Serving NE Sertoma and Gulf Coast Crime Stoppers, as well as acting as Rotary Liason to the CHS Interact club, and facilitator and group leader for Outback America and Rotary International district 6940 RYLA.

It’s a 30-year commitment. Start the relationship off right. Whether it’ s fixed or adjustable, for 15 or 30 years, buying a home is most likely the single largest purchase of your life. A commitment like that shouldn’ t be taken lightly. You need someone who definitely knows where the relationship is going.Someone who’ s serious about real estate and can guide you through the complicated process of buying a home; Someone to ease your mind and explain every detail.

You know someone to talk to and more importantly, someone who will listen. I am committed to making sure that you are comfortable during the entire home buying experience, and that you are satisfied in the end.

Everyone knows that a good relationship takes work. So when it comes to buying a home, work with someone who will work with you.

Is your property easy to show?

When you list your property for sale, you should do your part to get the maximum number of showings by making it easy to show. More showings mean more offers, and more offers mean you are more likely to get a higher price, and sell quicker!

Typically, after a realtor has searched the MLS and found a few suitable homes to show his buyer, he or she will call the listing agents or listing offices to get showing instructions and to make appointments to see the properties. Having been in this position many times, I can tell you how frustrating it is to get the listing agents voicemail but not get a return call in a reasonable time. When that happens, we will usually cross that property off our list.

I always answer my phone and it follows me home, or to my car, or to my desk at the office. Agents or buyers interested in seeing my listings reach me easily and that helps increase the number of showings.

Some instructions state “Listing Agent Must Accompany.” When an agent is showing four or five properties, it is virtually impossible to accurately predict arrival time at a particular listing. And if he or she arrives early, or the listing agent arrives late, an awkward wait with clients results. Some unscrupulous listing agents use this technique as a device to deliberately limit showings by other agents to increase their odds of selling the property themselves, thereby doubling their share of the commission. A seller might think the listing agent is showing extra initiative by agreeing to accompany every showing. Don’t be fooled — This is a bad idea.

Showing instructions might also state “24-hour notice required” or “appointment required.” Either of these is also sure to lose some agents and their buyers.

The best way to make your property accessible to agents with potential buyers is with an electronic lockbox. There are some very successful buyers’ agents who will not show a house that’s not on a lockbox. Don’t have them skip your house!

Some sellers fear for the security of their home and may not realize the safety features incorporated in this system.

Heres how it works. The lockbox containing your house key is secured to your front door. Licensed agents, active members of the Realtors Association, have an electronic key that looks and works something like a TV Remote. If a key were to be lost, there are two safeguards preventing its use by an unauthorized person. First, it is password protected and its internal password is updated on a daily basis at the agents base station or “cradle.” Second, each time it is used, the agent must enter his own private pin number. The SUPRA electronic lockbox itself, is an electronic marvel. Before releasing its contents, it verifies the key has been updated that day, and that the user has entered his correct PIN. It also records the name, license number, company and date and time used, for each opening. This information is later transmitted to a mainframe computer and is available online anytime, to the agent who owns the lockbox. Cheaper combination lockboxes do not have any of these security features.

A lockbox on your door does not interfere in any way with your entering or leaving your house. You work your door locks the same way you always did.

So, sellers — Make your home easy to show. Pick Walter Pierce who answers his phone and who uses electronic lockboxes.

DON’T LOSE BUYERS

Stephanie Porter

Kevin Miller joined us in the studios with Stephanie Porter and Leanne Todd to talk about all of the great things about THRIVE.

Le-Vel was created and envisioned with a greater purpose, a premium plan. This plan is not to create a product, or a product line, but to build a global brand, a new icon. A brand that encompasses ultra premium products: premium product lines. The new brand, for the better lifestyle, premium-seeking consumers.

The largest and most successful companies in the world are extremely good at one thing. They build brands, not products. They are so good at this one focus, they can literally put their logo on anything and it is passionately accepted worldwide. As the Le-Vel vision is birthed with THRIVE, it will continue on with all of our brands and future premium products. Le-Vel will be a global giant; our logo will be on many different products, wherever you go, our logo will go with you. The quality, passion and efficacy with one product line, will flawlessly continue on to all product lines, because the true focus, our passion will always remain at its inception, The Brand: Le-Vel.

To build the Premium Lifestyle Company, we knew we had to look further than just a product, we had to envision a larger purpose, a deeper reason for what we were doing. We had to create the one and only Premium Lifestyle Brand.

What is the THRIVE Experience?

THRIVE Experience Video – What is the THRIVE Experience?

The THRIVE Experience is an 8-week premium lifestyle plan to help individuals experience and reach peak physical & mental levels. You’re going to live, look, and feel Ultra Premium like never before! Results from the THRIVE Experience are high impact, and can differ slightly from person to person, depending on your 8-week goal, and which areas of your lifestyle need the most help. Whether your goal is to lose weight, get in the best shape of your life, or simply be the best you can be, we know the 8-Week THRIVE Experience will get you THRIVIN’ in all areas of your life! Individuals on the Experience will enjoy premium support and benefits in the areas of:

  • > Weight Management+ > Cognitive Performance+
  • > Digestive & Immune Support+ > Joint Support+

The Blues Angel Music Foundation

“Music is the voice that tells us that the human race is greater than it knows.” —Napoleon Bonaparte

Our Vision:

The Blues Angel Music Foundation aims to make a positive impact on the Greater Pensacola Area through the promotion of music education, instruction, and therapy throughout the lifespan of any and every individual it touches.

Our Mission:

We will seek out and support organizations, scholarships, and other efforts to engage the mind and body through music.

About the Blues Angel Music Foundation

In 2012, before there was a foundation, Jim and Nan DeStafney, owners of Blues Angel Music, knew they wanted to help make a positive difference in the lives of people through music. From their own pockets, they made donations to many local organizations including the Belmont Youth Band, the Pensacola Choral Society, the Pensacola Symphony, the Waterfront Rescue Mission, and Guitars for Vets. But that wasn’t enough.

They began looking for groups who were making strides in providing music therapy. It has long been accepted that music can connect to parts of the brain beyond control of the conscious mind. Science and brain imaging have shown us that the brain has the ability to heal and change. This same science has taught us that music therapy can help patients overcome language, cognition, and motor control problems that were once believed to be beyond rehabilitation.

Then, in September of 2014, a $200 donation to their efforts changed things and the Blues Angel Music Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, was born.

Why Music Matters

Music majors are the most likely group of college graduates to be admitted into medical school. Research has shown that piano students are better equipped to comprehend mathematical and scientific concepts. Of course, America needs more and better physicians, scientists and mathematicians.

Playing and learning music benefits people of all ages — and it’s proven fun! The Blues Angel Music Foundation advances active participation in music education, instruction, and therapy across the lifespan of every individual willing to participate by supporting philanthropic giving and public service programs.

The BAM Foundation is an active representation of the desire of the staff and customers of Blues Angel Music to spread the power of music to places where it doesn’t currently exist. It is funded directly by BAM through fundraising and by direct, tax deductible, donations from people like you.

Make a donation today and change someone’s life forever.

Company Biography

Tony’s Tejas Salsa is a DBA of Ingram Family Corporation (IFC)

IFC was incorporated in 2011.  IFC’s mission is to “Engineering a new business model that prioritizes humanity”. IFC’s focus is on nourishing entrepreneurship and building financial foundation for families. Founded by Anthony Ingram, a visionary with over two decades of food industry experience. Tony’s Tejas Salsa is the flagship product of the company. Our brand has over 100 members of the Tony’s Tejas Salsa Profit Share Group investing funds, time, and ideas. Tony’s Tejas Salsa is on the path to being the next house whole name in salsa and an international product over the course of the next 25 years. Born in Houston, TX but produced and operated in Mobile, AL. Sold across the gulf coast, our brand has developed a grass roots following with regional demand.

Tony’s Tejas Salsa Product Line

Tony’s Tejas Salsa is an all-natural fresh premium salsa & marinade, which is low in sodium, has  no added sugar and has a bold vibrant flavor.  It was invented 10 years ago to be a salad dressing for a chicken fajita salad off of the “Tj’s Eat Like We Eat” restaurant concept menu.  Blended fresh and kept refrigerated, Tony’s Tejas Salsa is made of the highest quality ingredients. Roma tomatoes for their rich robust flavor. Fresh purple onions, cilantro and garlic to enrich our salsa with antioxidants. Yellow bell peppers for a smooth flavor with a natural sweetness. A combination of 5 chilies that gives your pallet a burst of southwestern kick. Last but not least a blend of healthy spices swirled into the mix, making it the world’s best salsa. Just ask the folks who eat it. Tony’s Tejas Salsa has three flavors. Original; a full zesty flavor with a little kick at the end. Caliente; tongue pleasing heat from beginning to end with Habanero and serrano peppers added. Beverley Ann’s Mild Blend; a smooth tangy mix with no heat, but with an enough chilies to be authentic Texas salsa. Tony’s Tejas Salsa will have a full line of products infused with the world’s best salsa, from “Tejas Southwestern Ranch” to “Tony’s Tejas Injector Juice”.  Our brand will only produce fresh high quality foods that you can feel good about eating, while there is a party in your mouth.

Fresh for Life

Fresh for Life is the philosophy of Tony’s Tejas Salsa.

Mark Robertson / Pensacola Bay Brewery

Brew Master / Co Owner

Once upon a time, two guys who had never met, had a glass of beer.

Who knew that years later, their love of beer would bring them together.

Elliott Eckland and Mark Robertson started this journey in 2009, and in October 2010 opened the doors of the Pensacola Bay Brewery. Focusing on local Pensacola landmarks and lore, the Pensacola Bay Brewery mixes a little Florida history in each pint.
