Stan Hall is the Executive Director of the Gwinnett Sports Commission. The mission of the GSC is to foster economic development through coordinating and developing Gwinnett’s role as a leading site for sports events involving youth, collegiate, amateur and professional organizations.
Sports is big business in Gwinnett County. Hall’s expertise shed some light on the professional and amateur sports landscape and what lies ahead. During the interview, he talked about the economic impact of sports in Gwinnett County, and what the county’s four major sports properties bring to the area, both economically and for the area’s quality of life.
According to Hall, “Our studies show that the annual PGA Champions event alone has a $10-$12 million economic impact on Gwinnett County, and combined with the local sports franchises (Braves, Gladiators), we’re looking at a $20-$25 million dollar annual impact.”
The county is home to the Gwinnett Braves baseball team, Atlanta Gladiators hockey team, Georgia Swarm lacrosse team and a PGA Champions Tour golf tournament, the annual Mitsubishi Electric Classic at the TPC Sugarloaf.
