E29 Celebrating Women in Project Management with Elise Stevens Lynda Stanton and Kornelia Homewood

What an opportunity to bring together Elise Stevens, who started the #celebratingwomeninprojectmanagement movement with Lynda Stanton and Kornelia Homewood who were featured in the initiative this year.  We love each episode and all our guests, but this one was special. It was a raw and emotional, an open discussion about something which has been left unattended for too long.

In our evolving world today, it is vitally important to discuss topics which may have been off-limits just a few years ago.  Listen to Elise share why she started the initiative and also how it has taken off in just a couple of years time.

Unlike any of our previous shows, we didn’t discuss PM skills, trends, or techniques.  This episode hit at the heart of the most valuable resources in our profession, our people.  It was moving to hear Kornelia share her personal story and how she draws strength from Elise and other women within our industry.  Listen to Lynda discuss the importance of having female Executive Leaders in her career.

The magic in this show was the connection with Lynda and Kornelia to Elise.  How a leader from Australia has touched so many lives here in the US and across the globe.  How the realities of being a woman in a male dominated industry are now being discussed in the workplace.

Tune in for upcoming shows with Project Management leaders and also subscribe to the podcast on Apple Podcast, iHeartRadio, Spotify, Stitcher, Spreaker or your favorite podcast platform! Our next show will be May 16th 1:00pm PST with Julia Steel and Renee Campisi.

Elise-Stevens-on-Phoenix-Business-RadioXElise Stevens holds workshops for women in project management roles to reinforce within themselves their true value to their team, company and industry. Programs include Improving the Diversity of Your Project Management Team, Exceptional Women in Project Management, and Return to Work Program for Professional Women.

Elise provides a channel for women’s voices to be heard, supported and embraced with my Podcasts: Fix My Project Chaos and Age Defying Careers.

Elise works with women who have extensive knowledge, skills and passion for their career, but unfortunately the high pressure and status quo within the workplace has left them feeling emotionally exhausted; they have lost confidence in their own hard-earned skills and are considering leaving their roles. It’s time for women to dream big in the industry, and to know that they can achieve their career goals!

Proud creator of this wonderful event, Celebrating Women in Project Management creating a community of amazing women together from all over the globe!

ABOUT THE PROJECT MANAGEMENT OFFICE HOURS SERIES

Project Management Office Hours is intended to provide Project Management professionals a place to drop in and discuss Success Stories, Best Practices, and Lessons Learned.  Project Management Consultant Joy Gumz has shared with us, “Operations keep the lights on, strategy provides the light at the end of the tunnel, but project management is the train engine that moves the organization forward.”

Each of us has a unique story to tell, but collectively we share a message that organizations who embrace Project Management Best Practices perform better than those which don’t.  Organizations which align Projects to Strategy perform better.  Organizations with Engage Executive Sponsors deliver better results.  Organizations which measure Project Management performance outperform those which don’t.

During our Project Management Office Hours, we hear directly from Industry leaders how to make an impact in our profession. How we, collectively, will Advance Project Management Best Practices, One Listener at a time!

Chesley was present to kick off the new series of Women in Leadership, “We all rise or we all sink,” she said as a charge for the series. Joining her in the studio was Amie Remington, General Counsel of Landrum Human Resource Companies, Inc., which consists of Landrum Companies, Inc., Landrum Professional Employer Services, Inc., Landrum Consulting, and Landrum Staffing Services. Combined, these companies serve over 600 clients and 10,000 employees.

Also in the studio was Barbara Barber, owner of East Hill Academy, a school that focuses on educating children grades 1-12 with autism and other related disorders. Barber is a successful business owner that has grown her business to a location in Pensacola, Milton and opening a Century location this year. East Hill Academy was awarded an IMPACT grant last year to expand their Pensacola location to accommodate even more students, and they continue to operate with a waiting list of students wanting to get into their schools.

Joining in the discussion was Kim Hannan, a visual artist and a corporate team-building consultant with a specialty in staffing and personnel strategies. With over 30 years of team building experience in both the corporate and volunteer worlds, she embraces and teaches the value of communicating a clear message of goals and culture to a team, then leading from a servant-leader position, always seeking to facilitate the achievement of team initiatives. Hannan believes that clear communication and staffing a team with the RIGHT individuals are the primary keys to achieving success.
