Geoff Smith/Assurance Financial Group

Assurance Financial is a bank focusing only on residential home loans and aims to be the expert in the field of financing for home purchases. The company is consistently named a “Best Place To Work” and strives to provide its customers with competitive interest rates and the best customer service.

John Herbert/Herbert Legal Group

From the smallest start-up to the industry giant, legal solutions are no longer a luxury. Whether it’s one incident that requires intense legal representation, or simply issues that arise naturally in the day-to-day business context, companies need a law firm that is on their side. Herbert Legal Group believes that valuable legal solutions can be delivered for businesses at an affordable, flat fee. They are off the clock and on your side.

Scott Tanksley/Authentity

Authentity provides a software tool that leads people through a face-to-face conversation in 30 minutes or less. Rather than answering a computer, they catalyze people talking to people, which raises the engagement level of the participants and generates understanding and buy-in. That’s a local win, but they’re also able to connect and report these conversations at scale to give leaders insight on a topic and faster, more actionable data from their stakeholders. Their initial users have been teams in large companies, and they’ve been affectionately called “Undercover Boss in a Box”.

“How do you negotiate your value?”

Katie King is our introduction into the Corporate Women in Business series – “uncut”. On the show, Katie is talking about combining her experience of living in Chattanooga and expertise to move from a major utility company to her solo law practice.

“After working ten years as in-house counsel for a large energy and technology company, I decided to start listening to what used to be a whisper and grew into a shout from my heart.  I decided to leave what was in many ways a dream job because I felt in my soul I was not doing what I was called to do.

I wish to be the kind of woman my daughter will be proud to know when she is grown.  I wish to use my time, talents, energy and voice to help my clients achieve their dreams, to be a positive influence in my community, and to create opportunities for others.”

Laurie Murphy/Emerald Coast Keeper

Executive Director

Founded in 1999, Emerald Coastkeeper is one of 240 (and counting) member organizations of the Waterkeeper Alliance. We are a grassroots organization that monitors four main watersheds in the Florida Panhandle. Our mission is to investigate, educate and protect our right to swimmable. fishable and drinkable water. We believe that healthy waterways are directly connected to healthy communities and healthy people.

In our four watersheds, you will find many springs, creeks, rivers, bayou’s, bays and of course, the Gulf of Mexico.

Pollution can happen anywhere, not just from large industires. Some of the greatest concerns in our region stem from residential pollution.

Some of the more common culprits are septic system failure, erosion and sedimentation, nutrient loading from fertilizers, red tide, heavy metals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls, (PCBs) lead, mercury, animal wastes, industrial paint source discharge, oil spills, commercial vessel pollution, residential development, and household garbage.

Protecting our waterways and drinking water from contaminants is everyone’s responsibility. We can’t do it alone…we need your help!

Feel free to contact us if you want to volunteer or to report a problem. We look forward to creating a healthy community with you!

In December 2010, Quint and Rishy Studer announced their purchase of the Carolina Mudcats, the Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. The Double-A team will move from Zebulon, North Carolina to Pensacola beginning in 2012. The Pensacola franchise will remain in Minor League Baseball’s Southern League.

“I am extremely proud and excited for the actions that are being announced today,” said Quint Studer. “Bringing affiliated baseball to Pensacola will continue to add to the rich sports history that already exists in the area. Seeing the future stars of Major League baseball in a fun, family friendly atmosphere will bring a new level of enthusiasm for the citizens of Pensacola and Northwest Florida.”

The new home of the Reds Double-A affiliate will be located at Blue Wahoos Park, the premier waterfront mixed use development on the Gulf Coast. The team will play the 2011 season in North Carolina before relocating to the new state-of-the-art facility starting in April of 2012. The Class A-Advanced club moving to North Carolina in 2012 will retain the Carolina Mudcats name.

“The Southern League is one of the most respected leagues within baseball. With this move we are joining several upstanding franchises, including the Mobile BayBears who graciously allowed us to share their territory to make this all possible for the City of Pensacola. It is an honor to be associated with a league that boasts talented alumni like Chipper Jones, Joey Votto, Alex Rodriguez, Tim Hudson and Miguel Cabrera,” added Studer.

On this week’s episode of “Wealth Matters”, hosts Millie Baumbusch and Robert Port discuss “Do The Children Want Our Antiques? Personal Property and Your Estate Plan”. Guests include Roger Kirschenbaum, owner of Roger A. Kirschenbaum PC and Spalding Nix, owner of Spalding Nix Fine Art.

Roger Kirschenbaum/Wagner, Johnston and Rosenthal P.C.

Roger Kirschenbaum, WJRRoger Kirschenbaum of Wagner, Johnston and Rosenthal P.C. obtained his undergraduate degree (B.A., 1978) from Brown University He began his practice of law in 1981 after his graduation from the Emory University School of Law. In 1985 he received a Master of Laws in Taxation degree from Emory. He is a member of both the Georgia Bar and New York Bar. Roger is a member of the Atlanta Estate Planning Council, served as Chair of the Estate Planning and Probate Section of the Atlanta Bar Association (2014-15), and serves on the Emory University Gift Planning Advisory Council. Roger has been a public arbitrator for the National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc.

Roger was counsel to a client for a significant donation of an art collection to the High Museum of Art. Roger has expertise in probate matters relating to wrongful death negligence cases and has presented “The Role of the Personal Injury and Probate Attorney in Negligent Death Cases” with Laurie Speed for the Atlanta Bar Association in November 2011 and December 2013.

His primary areas of practice include estate planning, probate and estate administration, general corporate and business law, and related tax planning matters. Roger’s clients are mainly high net worth individuals and closely-held business owners for whom he plans the methods to achieve both fundamental and complex estate, business succession, and charitable goals.

Spalding Nix/Spalding Nix Fine Art

Spalding Nix, Spalding Nix Fine ArtAtlanta native Spalding Nix has a long history in the Atlanta art world – interning at the Heath Gallery, working at Jackson Fine Art, and opening his eponymous gallery in 2003. Spalding Nix majored in both Art History and Studio Art at the University of Virginia. After working at Jackson Fine Art after college, Spalding attended the University of Georgia’s School of Law specializing in Intellectual Property and International Law.

During his undergraduate and law school summers, Spalding worked at The National Gallery of Art on their Design and Development team and in the General Counsel’s Office of The Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. After passing the Georgia Bar, Spalding worked for Sotheby’s in their Client Development group working closely with Sotheby’s Appraisal and Valuations Department.

In the fall of 2003, Spalding opened Spalding Nix Fine Art. After working at Sotheby’s in New York, Spalding saw an opportunity to purchase 18th and 19th century paintings at auction in Europe and offer them to the Southeastern market. Additionally, Spalding followed his love for contemporary art with regular “Boutique Shows” at his gallery with artists like the ceramicist Garth Johnson and the painter Comer Jennings while serving on the board of MOCA GA.

Today, Spalding’s gallery highlights the best of contemporary art from abstract artists like Katherine Sandoz and Sally King Benedict to more traditional realists like Marc Chatov and Sarah Lamb. The gallery is unique, because it has moved beyond the white box of most contemporary galleries. It offers the work in a sumptuous setting with period antiques emphasizing the allure of the mix. “The Mix is IN,” says Spalding. “Mixing the old with the new allows both pieces to sing and truly reflects the collector’s taste. The “Golden Rule’ for any collector must be “Buy what you love!” Spalding’s gallery takes advantage of multiple platforms from 1stdibs to Facebook to promote his artists.

In addition to dealing art, Spalding is an appraiser valuing art and antiques who recently rediscovered a long lost Norman Rockwell. As an Accredited Member of the American Society of Appraisers, Mr. Nix provides valuation services for donation, estate, insurance, and litigation-related purposes.

As an art advisor, Spalding assists individual and corporate clients like the Fortune 500 company Printpack in navigating the art world by offering confidential and objective advice in the acquisition or sale of fine and decorative art.
